CV Check please

Suggest spelling Adobe premiere correctly, putting down Premier doesn't inspire confidence in those 4 years of experience :p

On a more serious note, needs fleshing out a bit with some more detailed info. Consider leaving off the lower grades from A level. I've just got a new job myself and didn't mention any of my school qualifications in the CV...

one thing i can say, is if your thinking of going for a graphic design or media job which are quite creative might be worth thinking about doing a more creatively based CV using something like photoshop

Thanks, noted. :) I want to leave all my A-levels on though.

Yeah, im considering doing it in Quark. I'll write it all up in wrod first, then have a play around with it. :)

Much better :) ; looks like more effort went into it from a potential employer's pov. Alignment of grades not right and title format not consistent.

Ok, heres an updated version;

Any better? Is it maybe a bit word heavy now? Also im not sure about the Software section. Whats the best way of presenting that?

Thanks for all the replies so far, they have been very helpfull. :)

Looks a lot better. I'd move the headings in from the LHS so they are level with the blocks of text.

I'd trim the profile a little. It's sounding very good

I am hard working, dedicated and ambitious person, having taken on a large amount of responsibilities and roles beyond those in the job description of my current job. I think being a recent graduate makes me eager to work hard and demonstrate my ability. I believe I am well suited for this vacancy due to a combination of my education, skills and interests.

I am well versed in using technology such as computers and audio visual equipment, not only in education, but also in my hobbies and interests. Because of my interest in IT and art, I have developed practical skills in both software and hardware.

I am hard working and can work unsupervised or within a team environment. I can give advice when asked and accept advice when offered, and believe in putting the team first.

After that then lean your profile more towards a creative role or an IT/systematic role depending on the job you apply for. Include a few examples relevant to the job applied for.

I don't suppose you're moving to London and want to work in QA/Software Testing? Long shot I know, but we're looking for someone and you sound ideal... ...and then you can make me a cool PC case :D

edit: Another good way of getting you grades etc... level, is to put them in a table but make the grid lines invisible.

:D Thanks for the offer, but I think Manchester is the next place to be blessed by my presence. ;) Whats the pay like for the job? I would consider that sort of job. Basically im after an IT job, progressing from what im doing now, or more ideally a more media based, graphic design type job.

Your profile is far too long, and should contain nothing more then a single, short, and to the point paragraph. On a current scan, your CV would be binned instantly due to the length of it. Most of what you've put there should be in your skills, interests and hobbies.

Well done on re-organising your Previous Employment and Education though.

I don't have the specs in front of me, but I'm thinking it would be 28k upwards depending on experience/suitability/how desperate we are ;) Certainly no less than that. Decent QA jobs in London start about there, moving to 40-50k with experience. Contracting you can be looking at between 300 to 500 per day (average 8 hours). I did know some people who were on about 600/day, but that was in better times ;) Now I think contract wise the average is 380/day (I forget where that was posted, and apologies to any contractors on the forum if I am way off).

I know a manager who employed someone purely because the guy had put "I also enjoy water sports." on his CV :D

Out of interest, what is this ? :D

A really nasty game that I tested. I went to their studio and did 16 hours of testing, and what a frustrating 16 hours it was.

Anyway, here's draft 3;

www.Afowler.co.uk/Misc/CURRICULUM VITAE.pdf

I think its getting there. Im quite plased with how its looking now. Any more comments?

Edit; Just spotted that some of the word split across lines. Will fix that now.

Edit Edit; Should be fixed now.

Congratulations; your third revision is a thousand times better than your first draft!

I'd question the wisdom of including your games testing experience. I can't imagine who in the world would actually care, never mind care about which specific game you tested.

I thin if you want an animation job or even any creative job you need to have a decent looking cv.

This is my one i need to update as i got some response back saying it was a bit dull.

You on the Newtek forums? They are always good for avice on jobs and cv

For a creative job (animation or otherwise) I'd be more interested in seeing a strong portfolio/showreel, rather than just a decent looking CV :)

absolutly...i am currently cutting this together and will be on my new site in the next few days.

The show reel is what you get hired on but a decent CV gets attention.

I fired my CV in one night when i had nothing else to do.
