For skills i have the following

• Extremely computer literate
• Knowledgeable with Hardware & Software
• Good Web-Design skills
• Basic Programming
• High standards of Network Technology
• Very good communication skills
• Excellent team player & individual
• High confidence in problem solving

I dont want to add to add too much jargon, they can ask me that at the interview.

Does this look ok?

Be more specific.

For example, under Good web dsign skills, is that good with certain languages, packages or creatively?

What can you programme? The VCR?

To me it looks a little wish wasy, I'd want to know what you could do to decide whether I wanted to take an hour out of my schedule to interview you.

Also a lot of what you have listed is subjective.

Go into more details IF they're relevant to the job.
If you're applying for a programming position for example, you'll want to list all language skills and experience on the CV and not wait for the interview to list them.
Show off if you can, techno jargon can help get jobs ;P

That is the constuctive feedback i need. Ta guys :)

I wasnt sure weather to be more specific just incase it got too boring.

Will amend the above.

yeah Ive been told to be really specific - what software languages/packages, even what version of said package in some cases.

Version 2

Feedback please

• Extremely computer literate
• Knowledgeable of computer systems (Hardware & Software)
• Database driven systems
• Good Web-Design skills using HTML/XHTML/CSS/PHP & SQL
• Basic Programming with VB / C++
• High standards of Network Technology
• Very good communication skills
• Excellent team player & individual
• High confidence in Fault finding and problem solving

More feedback

• Extremely computer literate
(Says who and what are you literate about? I'd dump this if I was you unless the job only requires a low level of IT literacy)
• Knowledgeable of computer systems (Hardware & Software)
(Which systems and what knowledge do you hold? Is it integration, maintainance, what?)
• Database driven systems
(Which ones and what can you do with them? DBA basic construction or user?)
• Good Web-Design skills using HTML/XHTML/CSS/PHP & SQL
I'd just put something like Practical commercial usage of balh, blah, blah
• Basic Programming with VB / C++
• High standards of Network Technology
(Which technology?)
• Very good communication skills
(Fine)
• Excellent team player & individual
(Fine)
• High confidence in Fault finding and problem solving
(What kind of fault and how? Is it general business problems or are we talking IT specific with regards to maintainance?)

Have to home now, the clock says 5.

Problem is, without more detail you'll never make it to the interview in the first place unless they have very few applications.

I don't want to be harsh, but without more explanation your CV will look like it is just self-certified opinion.

Does the rest of your CV include examples of previous employment with more detail about how you got these skills and have used them before?

If so then perhaps what you have listed will be enough, but if not then you do need to be more specific or it will appear you are just trying to pad things out with undefined skills.

Ok, so what would i need to put next to them? how i achieved it as a skill? in the shortest way possible? because the only way i have achieved them is through university, exept for

• Knowledgeable of computer systems (Integration and maintenance of both Hardware & Software)

As i learnt this myself

and

• Practical commercial usage of HTML/XHTML/CSS/PHP & SQL

which the PHP/SQL bit i learnt myself.

In your CV there will be two main parts, the very short skills summary which you've got covered, and the longer review of previous jobs that will show in more detail why they should employ you.

You've included the statement 'Practical commercial usage' in the skills so I assume you do have a previous job history to include for that part, but for the PHP/SQL I wouldn't list it with the skills you do have commercial experience of but include something like 'also familiar with the use of PHP / SQL' so it does not appear that you are claiming the same level of competancy.

Are the hardware/software integration skills relevant for the job?

If so you are going to have to explain that they are self taught, if not then don't include them.

Here is my previous employment

11/2005-Current Date
Wilkinsons, Welsh Street, Chepstow

Role/Responsibilities:
I am currently employed at Wilkinsons as part of a strong working workforce. I have 2 job roles, I work as part of the Stock control team making sure the right levels of stock are maintained, calculating stock counts, posting them back to DC for re-order. I also work as Goods-inwards Personnel taking in deliveries, checking deliveries and splitting down the delivery for the merchandising staff to work.

06/2005 - 01/2006
Norfolk Fresh Produce

Role/Responsibilities:
I was employed for Norfolk fresh produce as part of an I.T consultant on an “as and when basis”, I provided first hand I.T advice and support to staff at Norfolk fresh working from home. I also assisted in the maintaining of the company website, making some design changes, adding new features including a small SQL driven database with search feature ( I DIDNT ACTUALLY DO THE SQL BIT, BUT HAVE LEARNT IT AND IMPLEMENTED IT AS PART OF PROJECT SO I LIED A LITTLE)

, updating and changing of the content to keep the website up to date. I left the company in 01/2006 under the circumstances that the company went into receivership.

Do you think i should add how i achieved the skills if not already mentioned through previous job's.

Also i have listed the modules i took in my education.

Never lie on your CV, just not worth it in the end, but there are better ways to phrase things sometimes.

'I also assisted in the maintaining of the company website, making some design changes, adding new features and implemented a small externally designed SQL driven database with search feature'

That way there is enough there to interest someone who might want some SQL skills without having to lie about it . You can explain if asked that you learned a lot from the experience and feel able to repeat it in future if needed.

What is the general description of the new job you are applying for, it will make it easier to answer some questions for you if we know broadly what it is you are going for?

I dont really know, i have been trained in a number of different area's and at the moment i am just looking to get my foot in the door, so i would be happy with:

Technician providing first hand Hardware/Software/Network support

Network technician/Admin

Web-designer, developer

then look to progress once im in with a company.

I cant just say im applying for blah blah blah job because its more than likely ill have to work my way up the ladder seeing as i dont have a lot of hands on experience.

So this isn't for a specific job then?

Are you planning to just mail the CV to people on spec then?

Sorry for som any questions, but it is hard to give good advice without knowing what you are doing with the CV :)

I would always reccomend tailoring the CV t osuit each job application and in my experience sending CV's to people other than in response to a job ad is not likely to be very successful.

You can use a more generic CV when giving one to an agency though.
