I had Cyanogenmod on my S2 and loved it, I have just gotten an S3 and wouldn't mind flashing it over. However I'm not in any state to go without a phone or end up breaking one as I cannot afford to buy another. What is the chance that my S3 breaks before the warranty is over? Because I know that if I flash Cyanogenmod that my warranty will be void instantly and as said I can't afford to replace the phone myself.

I've read on ways to reset the counter so that the warranty is not affected but does this actually work? Has anyone had one break and reset their counter and been okay going through Samsung to get it fixed?

Sorry if there is another thread about this, it's an expensive phone and I really need to know that I can maintain my warranty and be able to flash Cyanogenmod, obviously if not I will probably just make do without.

Thank, Antony

If your worried about warrantee. Don't root. It's pretty easy however to return s3 back to stock after rooting and custom Roms. Don't panic and flash away if you "dare"

If your phone broke, and was rooted, they would have to prove the root had an impact on the reason it broke to void it.

Im running CM9 nice and stable. Just waiting for CM10 to become usuable as a full time rom.

All I want to know is if someone can guarantee me that if my phone does break due to something unrelated to flashing I could get it back to a state where they couldn't tell it was flashed. I know what I am doing when it comes to flashing as I've done it for ages using nightly builds on my S2.

As nice as stock Roms are on the s3. Custom ones imho always offer superior performance and smoothness. I do favour Samsung based custom Roms due to certain native based apps. There are No guarantees with rooting.

i have rooted my phone also but have standard rom, there was a update on the s3 im worried if i update i might brick the phone or do you guys think its ok to update?

Oh, is that all?

Alright then, I'll guarantee it for you. Where do you want me to send the money if you smash the phone into several pieces?

What a silly thing ask.

Depending on how the phone is broken it's usually very possible to flash stock firmware. No one can 'guarantee' you anything more concrete than that.

What I'm asking is, If I flash my phone and then it breaks in some way, can I get the flash counter back to 0 so that Samsung do not just say "You flashed it, no warranty for you." I'm so confused how it's hard to give me a straight answer.

Well it obviously depends on what breaks. If the voltage regulator or SoC goes then it would be very difficult to get the flash counter back to 0. On the other hand if the headphone connector broke it would be very easy.

I obviously know that if I snap the phone in half then I'm done for, but then they wouldn't be able to find out anyway would they?

If you flash a firmware that doesn't have a modem/radio packaged with it, then it's practically impossible to brick your Samsung device.

Some people have had success returning phones with a counter though..

I don't care if I brick my phone, I care about being able to send the phone back after flashing it with a counter at 0. If I flash and brick my phone I wont send it back because I broke it. However if I flash it and 2 months in the buttons break or the camera stops working then I want to send it back as this was not my fault.
