As the title, ive installed the standard cyanogenmod using the windows installer and everything works except voice calls break up and often a squealing digital type tone defeans me and everyone complains they cant hear me. It works momentarily and often the call just dies. I've tried the simcard in an old nokia 6230 and it's perfect. No break up, no disconnects. I've flashed the standard samsung fw back on and perfect so it's the cyanogen mod that's the issue. I'm currently on a temasek lollipop rom and i did a clean install. Cleaned the DALVIK/CACHE/DATA/FACTORY RESET but the problem persists.

Can anyone advise on another rom that is brilliant like the cyanogenmod rom, but isn't based on it, or am i stuck with the bloated samsung fw forever until i can get another phone?

GiffGaff is a terrible network, have a read HERE

The signal in my case improved after installing 5.1.1 R3 Cataclysm ROM, but anything under 5.1.1 seems to have signal problems apart from KitKat on which my signal was probably the strongest... Your phone has a decent radio (well... better than my nexus 5), so you should be fine.

Edit:

To install a custom ROM, you should have a custom recovery and unlocked bootloader. So you can flash from Custom Recovery, not sure if TeamWin is available for samsung. If it is, then I would recommend using it.

Thanks guys. Will try the suggestions and if the problem persists then will have to move network and see how it goes.

Thanks once again.

You know... Not everyone will have similar results with the same networks as you. O2/giffgaff is pretty good in my home area.

To OP make sure you have the right version as well, there was 2 S3 variants, one that is quad core and another that is dual core. Usually I find it best to manually grab the ROM from the Cyanogen site just to make sure I have the right one instead of relying on the software. Also nice to check XDA to see if there are any problems with recent builds.

i9300 (quad core) is the UK released phoning by all providers, the i9305 (dude core) was the US Verizon issue only.
