But the problem is that many of the bullies are people that the victim knows outside of cyberspace.

some of it is a lot worse thank you think, it's not just a case of them being called names over MSN or something, it is their name and phone numbers being posted on gay message boards, or pictures of them being put on porn sites etc.

Stuff that could really mess a sensitive person up.

LOLorz!

If someone is being bullied on the net then it's likely they're being bullied off the net also, school for example. A lot of people being bullied at school will find going home an escape, I can't imagine what it must be like when you're even being bullied 24/7 at home also.

Where are they getting being bullied 24/7. Do these people not sleep or even eat or something? Are they unable to hit the off switch on their computers?

I am not condoning bullying but I think it is a little sensationalist to say 24/7 bullying. People need to sleep, and how are they being bullied then?

That logic doesn't work with the internet. Turning off the PC is all well and good, but the victim still knows the abuse is continuing. Especially if it's the serious kind involving personal material being displayed on the internet. Logging off doesn't make it go away.

Void, sometimes when people say 24/7 they don't mean it literally, I was exaggerating to get my point across that if people are being bullied on the internet, then the amount of time they're been exposed to bullying is far greater than usual.

Yes, people can turn off their computers, but why should they?

I have to deal with cyberbullying most days at work as I run a school network. It's not nice what some kids do to each other and I'll tell you now it wouldn't shock me if there were suicides over it at some point. It's awful that kids have to treat each other like this and I do everything I can to help.

OCUK parents - how would you like your boy/girls picture plastered all over social pages saying she's a **** etc. or semi naked pictures posted up for the world to see - including pedophiles.

It can have an awful impact on a kid who's done absolutely nothing wrong. Some people do over-react to it but it is a very serious thing to do.

It's also one of the reasons I no longer have a myspace page :p I don't leave myself open for that sort of abuse! as I am a prime target ! :D

broadband and [ladies only] sam where cyber bullied :p

They were in a way yes. Both were asking for it admittedly, but when they said enough was enough, people refused to stop, which was childish. Broadband left humiliated and sam can't go two posts without someone mentioning it. Although he's took it on the chin well. :p

in one of my last lectures at uni, my lecturer gave a talk about how she did a quick study of an online game (nothing like wow etc) and the people in the test created a character and then went online and acted like kids joking and messing on etc....shouting at people, she based the test on what apprently happend a few months before that about a woman who claimed rape over the internet and said that her online character had been abused basicaly and therefore it was part of her and her personality and she had been violated, (if i remember correctly this was in america) cant remember nay details but she took it to court etc ...... if i do remember right she won =S

just goes to show how serious this is ....
