Cyberpunk 2077 CPU usage & upgrade

So imagine how bad it is for the OP with his slow ASF 2700?. LOL.
Imagine if you went to YouTube as I just have and watched a ton of videos showing CP 1.5+ running absolutely fine on a 2700 - even in the busier sections - if you just dial back the settings as suggested. LOL.

Imagine dialing back settings, imagine talking the way you do. "Imagine".

Less = more apparently, the OP clearly see's a bottleneck.

Imagine you didn't have to keep telling people to "imagine" things in all your posts. Imagine not having to end all your comments with LOL, in the mistaken belief that it somehow vindicates your opinion. Imagine you'd never started with the "imagine" posts on this thread. Imagine.

The OP post states clearly:

..noticed some CPU bottle necking, especially when setting crowd density to high in Cyberpunk 2077.

Imagine just dropping that setting down for a vastly improved gaming experience at zero cost.

He also states:

Am I right in thinking.. a CPU upgrade (something like a 5700) will be massively transformative?

Imagine that won't be the case (it won't.) Imagine that a massively transformative upgrade would require him to change his GPU too. Imagine all that expense for someone who in his own words only games intermittently. Imagine. LOL.

Back to the OP's actual question...

If sticking with DDR4, you could go with something like a MSI B560M Pro, these cost <£100. If you wait until January 2023, there should be 13th gen locked CPUs that can do 5ghz + all core. Unfortunately, Intel prefers to make customers wait for the better value CPUs...

If going with DDR5 RAM, I would probably recommend going with a Zen 4 /AM5 build, and getting DDR5 6000 RAM. The main reason, is that there will probably be another 2 or 3 Zen CPU generations that support the AM5 platform.

I noticed you have DDR4 3000 RAM. I'd be inclined to upgrade to DDR5 in your position, as that DDR4 spec isn't going to give the best performance (in games).

Thank you all for the feedback.

I'm wondering about further constraints on my system (a 750W PSU from FX-8350 days, like 10 years ago), a case size that only allows about a 285 mm length GPU (the equivalent of an RTX 3080 FE).

My monitor is a 3440x1440 UWQHD 100 Hz Freezync, which is where I expect to do my triple A+ gaming. On the other hand, I have been experimenting plugging my PC in to my 4K 60 Hz HDR VRR TV, and have been surprised to see my PC smash it in games like the FF7 Remake or Forza Horizon 4 at 4K @ 60 hz VRR.

I'm conflicted. I could max this bad boi with a 5800X3D and whatever GPU I can cram in with the limited size of the graphics card slot. I'm also on a B450 board, so there's the question of the PCI-E bus (I think I only have 3.0). Will that really affect putting a 4xxxx+ series GPU in there?
