Out of interest and in the interest of being on topic where is the 'Motor' ;)

If the government get their way we'll all be using these soon enough. Say goodbye to 3l engines and hello to bulging thigh muscles :p

I am contemplating starting to do this. Not every day, but say once a week like the guy above. Thing is my drive to work is 17 miles including motorway, and Google reckons 12 miles the non-motorway route, so I might go that way and see what its like. I have a regular cheapo mountain bike with road tyres and front suspension so it's not totally unsuitable, my only problem is due to the fact i'm so ridiculously unfit (what I'm hoping to cure by doing this!) I'll arrive at work sweaty and ready to collapse :(

Perhaps I'll start sticking the bike in the boot and going for a ride at lunchtime

At the moment I am cheating a bit, I start my journey in thatcham, but drive to calcot, (10 miles) and then ride from calcot to twyford.
You work in Twyford? I grew up there, parents still live there :)

I'll be riding to work when the weather imroves a bit and I give my Claud Buter a spring clean. it'll be about 3 miles each way - so nothing too gnarly

My bike....can't say i've ever commuted on it though, its 20 miles in the peak district which although is a lovely ride when you want to ride, NOT when you need to be in work for 8.30 in the morning where there are no showers!

When i lived in sheffield i used my claud butler cape wrath to commute, awesome bike for that duty!

Tom.

Some serious metal there, use it for freeride and downhilling?

Is that a bit of the trail I can see in the background? Ohh and your seatpost is a bit high :p, but you've probably just ridden it to the trail.

I'm actually scouring ebay atm looking for some cheap but decent HT's, looking into getting back into riding with summer around the corner :D

i was riding it on relatively flat stuff in that pictre :p i'm 6'4 too so the seatpost HAS to be high :p

yea it's used for free ride mainly, but not had a chance to do anything in anger on it since building it!

Still riding - bike's had some upgrades, but still running knobbly tyres :)

Cape Wrath d27, but now with added:

Rock Shox Reba Team fork,
Mavic 321s,
Hayes Stroker Ryde 180m front and rear,
WTB Speed saddle with ABR post,
Raceface Ride XC ISIS crankset with SKF BXC600 bottom bracket.

Not had so many near misses with traffic as of late now the weathers brightened up. Nearly 1 year without using a car to commute as well now!

Needs a rear pannier rack! :p

Kudos on going a year bicycle commuting!

My "upgrade" was to remove the full mudguards from my commuter as it's now summer time! :D

Yeah, I recently removed the lights from my bike, which takes the weight of 10 AA batteries and a bit more away. Mudguards are still on, as the weather is still completely unpredictable.

I assume you guys all have showers at work? I used to stink when I rode 4 just miles each way to uni in my 2nd year, although that didn't stop me :)

Here is my baby, My Dad got it with ciggy tokens (he was a chain smoker) and collected enough to get this bike. I think it was 3700 tokens, one token per box of twenty, do the maths = One expencive bike. This was all pre 1997 bty

I got it when i was 17 (feb 2007) and i still have it its done more miles than most cars
I cycle to work every day 6 mile return trip. I,ve been everywere on it.
Its old, worn out been through more wheels, pads than any motorbike or car of mine and I love it!!!!

In the process of building a bike up to try and get my self fit again.
Brother in law is well into Time trials, so im getting his old road bike frame, a Giant Composite TCR compact.
Just got my self wheels, brakes and front and rear mechs ordered today.
Bottom bracket and cranks are ultegra, but im fitting shimano RS500 wheels and tiagra mechs. Ambrosio brake calipers are going on, since they have carbon look finish and will match the frame nicely.
Aim is to be able to cycle to work at least twice a week, 15 miles each way and basically uphill all the way to work, plus have to contend with head winds along morecambe prom.

Sounds like a fun ride home :D

I set a new PB this morning. Was running late and had to be under 35 mins to get to work on time! (previous PB was 34, set yesterday!)

It seems I thrive under pressure. 32 minutes (just over 17mph average) today, probably slightly under that too, but I didnt note the second hand position when i set the bezel on my watch! I think a trip computer is needed now that my PB is likely to increase by smaller amounts each time.

Oh, my cranks are creaking horribly at the moment i tried tightening them, but it seems to have made no difference. Is this likely to be the bottom bracket dying?
