Hi Guys,

Posting for a friend - hes looking to get a cycle computer but not sure of which one to get - the 2 he has got in mind are:

Cateye Micro Wireless
Cateye HR200EW

Open to any further suggestions though - unsure of budget, dependent on functionality I guess

TIA

Cateye are cool. I have something like the micro for my MTB. I think the casing developed a crack when I had a tumble down a gully, but it still works.

When you mount it, make sure it is lower than the brake levers or whatever so if you do go arse over tit they take the impact rather than the display.

I've been using a wee wireless Bikemate computer that I picked up from Lidl a good few months ago. It was ridiculously cheap ( @£15 iirc ) and it has a plethora of functions on it which I find very useful. All the usual stuff, speed, avg speed, trip distance, etc etc. It is also a reasonably accurate heart rate monitor to boot and comes with a chest strap.

I can't fault the thing to be honest, cracking value for money. The only thing it's missing that I can think of is a cadence reading.

If you Google for Bikemate you will probably find one for sale somewhere even though Lidl don't stock them now.

First chose wired or wireless - I'd imagine wireless looks nicer and is less faffy, but requires more battery.

I have a wireless Specialized computer - this one in black: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCEqProduct.jsp?spid=41875

It's fully wired but crucially includes a cadence meter which is what I was most interested in. Bit of a faff getting the thing on and the sensors close enough to the magnets - but works perfectly :)

The only thing it has trouble with is sensing a cadence under 30 - which is stupidly slow anyway so no worries there!

It was only about £25. Good value, considering.

I use one of these as well, with it being rear wheel speed pick up, it works on a turbo trainer. Very usefull.
Also have a Polar CS200 as well, bit more expensive but very good as an HRM plus you can upload the ride info to the polarpersonal training web site. Where you can look at rides.

Cheers guys,

Ive sent him the link to the thread in the morning and he has been looking at your recommendations - I think he was gonna plump for the Cateye Micro but didnt know if there was any better in the price range - I guess around £30-£35 isnt too bad for one of these things...
