Cycle reboot problem-overclock suddenly unstable?

Hopefully someone here can give some helpful hints because over the last few days my rig has real problems booting. It'll spin up, then beep and restart, and then do the same. This'll happen several times and when it does eventually boot I have to go into the BIOS and re-set my overclock. It will sometimes eventually boot up but over the last couple of days I've had to drop down to 3.4GHz.
It was running absolutely fine over the last 3 months or so, since I added another 2gig of RAM and the Titan Amanda. When I did those, I was able to go from 3.2GHz to 3.52GHz although I had to drop the RAM timings down to 5-5-5-15 and put the VDIMM to 2.15 or 2.2v (can't remember which).
Other settings were an extra 0.1v on the (g)MCH and the FSB and the CPU voltage was 1.45v.
I have no idea why it is suddenly doing this but it's incredibly irritating. Also, I have noticed that my system temp in Speedfan (temp1) seems to have risen several degrees recently, so I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it and perhaps something on the mobo needs re-seating.
I am running the latest BIOS (F9) and this started before the update. I've also run memtest with no problems so I'm pretty sure that none of the sticks are faulty. What I find strange is the fact that this has just happened suddenly.
Anyone got any ideas or things to try?
On a related note, I notice when booting at 3.4GHz that core 1 runs at 100% for several minutes before going to a more normal usage and during this I find the PC hangs and stops responding, particularly in explorer and Internet explorer? Any idea why this should be? I can't find anything untoward in Task Manager and spyware/virus checks reveal nothing dodgy.

Thanks

Jon
