Get the best spec mountainbike for the money and a set of 1.5" slicks. The gearing and weight wont be ANYWHERE near a roadbike but it's your choice not to get a road bike.

Never ridden a road bike so wont know what im missing lol.

Does anyone know if the Commencal Combi Disc is any good? I like the look of it!

* NEW Combi NUTS AL frame
* RockShox Dart 2 Turnkey fork featuring lockout
* Shimano and Sram 27spd transmission
* Avid Juicy 3 hydraulic disc brakes
* Alex double wall rims laced onto Shimano and Commencal disc hubs
* Kenda Karma tyres
* SDG Bel Air saddle offers maximum comfort and style
* Bike weight: 28.8lbs

Its a shame you cant just walk into any bike shop with your voucher, i was limited to Halfords - dont get me wrong im happy with my bike but i wish i could have went to evanscycles or another local bike shop. Oh well at least next year i will know better and if im still limited to halfords i'll get them to order in a bike of my choice instead of opting for one of theres.

Luckily we can go to any local shop. Limited to a max of £500 though which is a shame

Realised there is a max budget of £500. So I've been looking at some options between £400 and £500. Here is a short list

SPECIALIZED Hardrock Pro Disc
£399

GT Avalanche 2

Marin Northside Trail

Commencal Combi Disc
£476.10

Ive ruled out the carrera fury because I've seen a lot of people say about problems with the build quality. Put the Marin and Commencal in there because I really like the look of them (although the commencal Ive only seen pics of).

I am swaying towards the gt, as this will give me £100 for accessories.

I will be commuting 2 miles each way per day, and using the bike for some xc at the Bracknell lookout. The lookout is this kinda thing: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bracknell+lookout&search_type=&aq=f

Many thanks in advance.
