Cycle Scheme - which bike

Really dont like the look of the specialised :(

No worries mate, you need to get a bike that you like the look of.
Just be careful to choose something that will be best for the role that you want.
That GT you posted wouldn't be my choice for a daily commuter and a bit of light off road.
I'd choose something more like this, (but not actually this one as I'm not a fan of the Kona brand, I'm not sure why though).

Kona bikes tend to ride well in my experience but they aren't always great value for money in terms of the parts they come fitted with which is more of an issue at the lower end of the market.

How about the Giant Escape R1?

Apparently it will handle tow paths and stuff, would you guys agree or are they talking rubbish?

That would be fine, it looks to have enough clearance round the tyres and since the tyres are fairly slim also it should have low rolling resistance. Discs are perhaps overkill for this type of bike but at least the are hydraulics and Giant own brand discs are pretty good.

That is ridiculously cheap. Must be a mistake surely...

Put it this way, the fork retails for almost £300 on it's own so yeah I'd have to say someone has stuffed it up somewhere by not putting it at ~£1,000 which is what most other people seem to be selling it at.

A[L]C if you can buy it that cheap let me know and I'll probably buy one as well.

I'm not totally sure why you are looking at mountain bikes when you only seem to want to cycle to and from work, for that sort of use the Giant Escape R1 looks the best bet out of those options.

Because chances are within a year I will want to do off road stuff

Shame it doesnt come in another colour lol. Such a tart. Is it much of an upgrade from the avalanche 2?

Does anyone know much about the Commencal Combi Disc? Can't find a lot about it online. Are commencal a good company?
