Cycling to work in winter

The only thing I do differently is lights, fleece or waterproof jacket with a sweat wicking layer. Ditch the slicks. Shorts all year round. Almost always wear fingerless gloves.

My fingers are generally ok with fingerless, it's just that the brake levers get so cold that sometimes it's actually painful to pull them.

It's my toes that get really cold, so wooly sock (possibly waterproof) and overshoes are a must for me.

Winter bib longs for me at this time of year or at the very least bib three quarters. I use a lot of PBK kit and find it is excellent, their Winter Team Jacket is probably one of the best things I have bought for my cycling. :)

I prefer the comfort of my Specialized BG Gel mitts but for early morning starts at 6.00am I use a pair of nice and toasty Sealskinz full finger gloves. Not as padded and comfy but good at keeping your fingers warm. I chuck my Spec BG mitts in my rucksack and usually use 'em on the way back home in the evening when it is usually a wee bit warmer.

Overshoes are one thing I couldn't live without at this time of year, apart from the fact my shoes are Shimano RO99's in pearl white :p and they help keep them clean, the overshoes are great for keeping your feet warm.

2x Tesco Cree's and 2x Revolution LED torches on the front is my light setup with the addition of a pair of strobing white LED keyring size lights on the bars ( Tesco LED ones ) and another two the same on the sides of my helmet. On the rear I've got a Revolution rear LED which is set to strobe and a Cateye LED which is set to always on. Rear of my Giro Monza has the same LED lights from Tesco but in red obviously, one in the middle set to always on and two others, either side of it set to strobe alternately.

Sports soccer for their cycling gear, dirt cheap and bought loads of it for winter. Like some have said, you warm up so easily, shorts are not out of the question either.

I do 15 miles each way (West London to Bishopshgate) each day, love it.
