Just out of interest, who else here cycles to work ?

I live in London and the traffic on the route I have to go is crazy, so there's no point getting a car to go to work so cycle instead , much cheaper and takes same amount of time every morning - about 6 miles away and takes about 35 minutes there , 25 back :)

I cycle to work, it's a great way to start the day. My journey is only about 5 miles but I've got a couple of challenging hills though so it's still good fun.

I'd love to cycle to work - be great to train five days a week. Shame we don't have a shower and that I often visit customers.

I do when it's not snowing. The only downer is that I live on the top of a big hill so getting home again after a long day can be tiresome. I love to get uo and get the heart working with a bit of exercise before I get to the office and shower ready for work.

about 3.5 miles for me but a lot of hills :( 7 mins to get here and about 12 to get home

HT

I used to bike to work when i worked at Ipswich Town Football CLub.

But now it would take me to long to bike from Ipswich to Felixstowe :(

Cycle to Chelmsford Station everyday which is about 3 miles there (downhill), and 3 miles back (uphill).

I'm kitted out with all my winter wet proofs and army boots etc. I get suited and booted when i get to work. In the summer, i come in with my shorts and all the ladies in the building start running out of the building !!

I'd love to, but at 23 miles it's too far, though we do have showers here, so I have contemplated doing it over the sumer. Not having to fork out £185 each month for the train would be a nice bonus too.

I used to to cycle when I worked only 4 miles away, and I found that I was getting a lot fitter. In some ways I wish I still had that job.

Depends, I haven't got a job yet :p
I'll get back to you when I graduate :p

Nah - I love cycling, I'd probably cycle some days and drive others.

at the moment no, because i live directly above where i work lol, but if i get this new job im going for im going to have to, 4 miles there (mostly downhill) 4 miles back (mostly uphill).

im due to get some excercise anyway lol

when I lived in London I cycled from Muswell Hill to soho every day.

Got knocked off 4 times.

Once a guy in a Jeep did it on purpose because, and i quote "he'd had a bad day"

Squashed my £1400 pound bike and almost me. Weird sensation laying on the floor next to youe dead bike with a Jeep towering over you. If he'd have carried on for a second or 2 I guess I'd have been under there too!!! EEK!

Got the local bike shop to write off the bike and got money through his insurance. The Police didn't follow it up. He ran me over on purpose and then threatened to do the same to a witness. eh!?? how can he not get done?

Another one was by King's X. Road turned 90 degrees left. Bus lane carried on. Hit car and went flying. Couldn't walk for 2 weeks. Guy got done for driving without due care and attention. (I lost 2 weeks pay, self employed)

Now living up near blackpool. Much nicer cycling round here to work. Although it is damn windy!!!

I considered cycling to work as I'm going to be pretty close to work soon, it's cheap, good exercise and there is a secure carpark under the building with a bike area so it would even be safe when I was here.

But since I can now drive to work without hitting peak traffic times I think that laziness will win and I'll just keep driving :p

Another London cyclist here (although not over Winter - I don't believe that I've done enough evil in my life to punish myself that much).

I'll probably take to the pedals again once the sun sticks its head out.

Possibly one of the ickier oarts to cycle - I used to ride through when they had all the building work - no fun at all.

I used to cycle, to three different jobs, however the furthest was only 5 Miles (each way).

Since I started in IT, both my jobs have been a good 35+ miles away, and are 45 minute journeys in the car, so unless I fancy leaving 3 hours before I need to be there, I can't realistically cycle :(

Still get out on the bike every dry weekend though.

And another London cyclist, but only when the clocks change - cos it's too cold at the moment, and dark when I start/finish work.

Door to door takes 20 mins by bike, 40 by bus, and god knows with the northern line. Nice route through primrose hill & regents park as well.

But god damn the motorists - I've had doors open directly in front of me, resulting in me taking rapid evasive measures and deliberately knocking off their wing mirrors. Well, they don't use them, right? Makes the other cyclists laugh though, and the drivers looking bewildered. Love it!
