Well think I almost had a coronary watching that. So so tense. Got to hand it to the aussies great performance when they needed it. Just glad our boys had enough. Keeping calm and staying on pace altho when the gap crept in at the end thought it had gone.

Hey I just noticed! That gold medal has taken us from 4th to 3rd in the medals table. Which is where we were at the end of 2012. Hopefully we can maintain this position, though I seriously doubt we'll catch up the Chinese or Americans.

Ha ha anyone Wiggo during the medal ceremony?

I think afterwards I was a bit more relieved than excited about the team pursuit - an excellent final but it was a lot closer than I was hoping for. Still after all that a new world record and a win means it couldn't have been much better. They did very well not to panic when the Aussies went out so fast for so long and sticking together as a four well after the Aussies went down to three must have helped.

Amazing results by GB!

I never really knew the rules of team pursuit. Can someone explain the purpose of front riders 'peeling' off and going to the back, and why are the teams left with 3 riders together to finish?

Wikipedia to the rescue... :p

As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear. The position of the third rider is pivotal because final times are measured as this team member's front wheel crosses the finishing line. Since the winning team is decided by the third rider, it is common for one rider to take a "death pull," where he or she rides so hard that they cannot maintain the group-pace afterwards. This allows their team-mates to briefly recover behind them before they make a final three-man acceleration towards the finish line.

Completely unrelated but I've just fiddled with my aerial lead and have loads more freeview channels to choose from. I now have uninterrupted cycling coverage (with Johnny Foreigner commentators :p)
