Unless its towards the end of the journey/very windy and I don't feel that I could safely control my bike at a decent speed whilst turning and signalling, then I wuss out and take the pavement
Joking aside, as someone who used to drive for a living but now just drives my private car, I'd much prefer a cyclist to position themselves as a car. I'll give them as much room and time as I safely can.
I'm never entirely sure where the best place in on a roundabout is for a cyclist. The drivers around here will drive like ***** regardless of where you place yourself. Overtaking on the inside then cutting across me to exit is a favourite of mine at the moment. I don't know what it is about Norwich but so many drivers overtake and leave a good 6" gap between your handle bars and their wing mirrors. I don't cycle at any really pace in the grand scheme of things but the number of drivers that just pull out in front of me and force me to slam on the brakes takes the pee.
When it is really busy I just get off at large roundabout because I know that one of these days I won't get lucky and I will be splattered on the pavement. Thats my main issue with "cars vs bikes". If I make a mistake doing something stupid then I probably won't kill someone however when cars do it, I am very likely to die.
the pinkish coloured cycle lane on these 2 roundabouts was installed about 13 years ago, initially signposted as "experimental cycle lane" I think i've only once seen someone use it and I use drive past twice a day at least - most cyclists just use the road normally. There's subways available on the eastern sliproads as well.
I think we can all agree though, multi-lane roundabouts are suicide for cyclists no matter which side they're on. Even when in a car, the amount of other cars you see that can't decide what lane they want and weave in and out is ridiculous. A cyclist in the vicinity of that doesn't stand a chance.
