padded as in the bum area ;) i only found out that these existed recently.

what are the decent brands.
are there two types? the figure hugging ones and more conventional 'baggy' shorts?

i'd appreciate some links for both types if poss

ta :)

I have Endura shorts ATM. They are ok but nowhere near as comfy as Pearl Izumi, also half the price. Both baggy, the Endura have removable lycra inners, the PI an inner mesh layer.

would these be the ones with the pad and mesh?

No, the ones I had (about 3-4 years ago) cost 80 quid :o Damn good though.

You don't want baggy shorts...rubbing and rashes. Stick to lycra.

rubbish. Been riding with baggy shorts for years with no problems. Even 5hr rides.

i got a pair of altura summit from a local shop (buying online can be dodgy with clothes, getting the right fit and that)

they are an italian make (well the removable liner is anyway), very well made. the padded area felt a little strange on my first cycle but i guess it'll take a few rides to mould to my bum shape

I've gotta pair of baggy oakley ones somewhere... They are great as they have unzippable air vents to keep yer legs cool. You gotta go commando for them to work tho. :)

I have a pair of Endura FS260's for the road and Altura Ascent baggies (with supplmental liner lycra shorts inc. chamois) for the mountain. Or modest hill here in Cambridgeshire LOL.

Both serve their purpose well, particularly the Endura's. Extremely comfortable on intermediate distances but the saddle / bike fit is of course a factor. I wouldn't ever wear them for mountain biking (atleast as the outer most layer) as they rip easily. A minor crash could ruin a £45 pair of shorts plus make for an embarrassing ride home.

would most people go commando then? i think it would be a lot more comfortable
