I'm not sure if anyone else has seen this getting plastered across Facebook/instagram? Apparent a few 'celebs' are promoting it:
first this one:
then Cara Delevigne shared this:
it all sounds awful - a young girl shooting dead her "child predator"/paedophile attacker in self defence and then bizarrely getting locked up for it and not just locked up for a bit but not eligible for parole until she's 69!!!
but wait a minute - that actually sounds pretty fishy, a US jury isn't generally going to be supportive of paedophiles who attack little girls and surely manslaughter isn't going to carry that sort of sentence?
So I thought I'd look up the story in a reputable newspaper - both the Guardian and Independent seemed to have it and though their opinion pieces are often pure trash their reporting is pretty decent, perhaps they could shed some light on it...

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...own-lawyer-free-child-sex-slave-a8075886.html
but no, these apparently professional journalists are about as clear as mud re: any important details of the case. But, in the case of the indy, they've chucked in some details about the OJ Simpson lawyer Kim Kardashian has lined up to appeal this (Kardashian's dad was one of the members of the legal team who helped get OJ off his murder charge - and might have helped him in some illegal ways too)
while social media is responsible for sharing the above photos fortunately we also have social media in the form of wikipedia that is useful for checking things quickly - in this case there is an article about a documentary about this case:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Me_Facing_Life:_Cyntoia's_Story
And it becomes quite apparent than things aren't exactly as portrayed by the celebs and people getting outraged online... nor by the guardian and indy journalists who decided to omit rather fundamental details
So it turns out this was actually a murder and a robbery - she was picked up by a John, there is a claim that she'd lied about her age (though this requires a citation) either way there is nothing to suggest he knew she was underage or that he was a paedophile. She went back to his and was shown his gun collection etc.. then at some point, when he was asleep she shot him in the back of the head, stole his guns, stole his wallet and stole his car.... oh and went straight back to the abusive pimp/boyfriend "Kutthroat".
I'm sure she has had a very rough life, I also think it is unfair to have charged her as an adult but the way this case has been portrayed in the media and online is very dubious - the victim though perhaps a seedy/dirty individual for picking up prostitutes is being unfairly labeled a paedophile and this whole thing is being portrayed as some sort of self defence against an abuser... when actually after killing and robbing her victim she went straight back to her actual abuser.
