D-Wave: Is $15m machine a glimpse of future computing?

It's more of a marketing ploy than a revolutionary machine. They convinced Google to buy one but Google throws money at all sorts of doomed projects on a regular basis so that's nothing to brag about.

Regardless of whether or not this machine is the break through that everyone has been waiting for, it'll certainly be a fascinating field to watch over the next 20 years or so.

GIVE IT TO 8PACK LETS SEE WHAT IT CAN DO

oh and will it drive my 4k display @60hz? for gaming?

there doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence that its actually faster than normal computers, or that its a quantum computer at all.

Indeed. Seems like we're waiting on academic research for a bit more info on this one. I reckon this is a step in the right direction but not what everyone pictures when they think of a proper quantum computer.

Will be good for the steam sales:eek:

I'll be impressed when we start using light, similar to fibre, but in a pcb. That seems like the future to me. If you can get light to turn sharp corners in a chip and make light reactive transistors... Imagine that. Virtually no heat, very low power consumption, very fast clockspeeds. Shunting electrons around is old hat!
