You dont need cpc for d1. Apply for d1 provisional, do medical, 2 part theory, lessons and test just like a car but the margins for error are tighter.

When I did it, it ended up costing £845.23. That was two years ago though.

Edit: +vat!

If you don't mind me asking, the fact that you *need* it suggests you're going to be driving for hire or reward, so why aren't work paying?

It may be due to the OP being a special constable, could be due to the Police force not being classed as a voluntary organisation also a lot of the newer 12-16 seater minibuses are over the 3.5 ton (MAM) limit of a post 1997 drivers license.

I thought the only reason to need d1 was for hire or reward?

Or if he wants to drive it in Ireland, their rules are different to the UK, so you need D1 to drive a minibus at all I think, unlike here. (May be exceptions for very old licenses though)

That would make sense. I thought the op was a pleb constable rather than a special pleb. :p.

I'm tempted to do HGV off my own finances/time. Similar vein to OP imagine, legally licences me to drive some of the larger vehicles, from other services most likely. I can see where he is coming from with regards to work not paying but still wanting it.

So, the Police have finally agreed to put me on a D1 course/test.

As far as I've seen I need to do the following:

  1. Get a D4 medical report filled in by my doctor.
  2. Submit a D2 form for provisional D1 entitlement on my licence.
  3. Once I've done that I can book the theory test, hazard perception test and Certificate of Professional Competence.
  4. I can finally go on the course and hopefully pass the test

Anyone got any advice or experience taking the D1 test or CPC?

Just found out that my Dr will charge me £100 to fill out the medical form. Is it me or does that seem steep?

My Doctor's fee was similar when I was looking for a medical for my Cat C. My advice is to contact various local medical centre's. I eventually found one for £45.

if you have manual car license as from the 10th April if you pass D/D1 in an auto you'll automatically get a manual license in those categories.
good luck with the theory and hazard perception side of things that's where most people fail as its way more stricter than car/bike. the cpc side of things is quite easy from memory its just 35 hours of making sure you take it in.
