d3100 or d5100 for complete novice?

Very informative thread. I'm in a similar situation, was looking at the D3100 but you've convinced me to go for the D5100.

John Lewis have a D5100 with additional 55-200mm VR Lens on their website for £620. In store it's only £430, so with the £90 cashback that can be claimed from Nikon it seems like an exceptional deal.

As you're a complete novice like myself i really recommend 'Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure' that was recommended earlier for me in the thread. It's a really easy and well illustrated read.

I have also bought the 'D5100 For Dummies' - and have found this a great addition to the manual.

That does seem like a very good deal, how do you check in in-store price, just call your local store?

I've got the same deal as well from JL, you can't get it anymore as the Welwyn Garden City store incorrectly priced match Currys for £429.95 but all orders were sent out. Cracking deal.
