D5 Pump vibrations when mounted to case

I found that ek one pretty decent
Though I shoved rubber between the flat face
Of the bracket and where I mounted it to
Yea, I've been meaning to do that too as I think that'll sort it.

Just a little too much effort currently! Pump is in the rear section of a O11 Evo XL, with the pump squeezed in the bottom, with hardline tubing throughout & the side with the pump is up against a wall. To make it more difficult, I have a verticle GPU, so the 3x DP cables feed through the back to the GPU too, so all in all, it's not a simple move!

Been a while but i decided to dismantle the case over the weekend and convert to hardline again.

I tested the pump with the motherboard tray removed so i can check if i could feel the vibrations with it connected, and it doesn't seem to make a difference, even removing the reservoir out the case, while the pump is not as noisy, it's still noticable, so i have come across a couple of potential issues..

Either the pump mounting mechanism is incorrect i.e. the rubber mounts i am using is insufficient to reduce vibrations
The pump is just a noisy pump and is just pot luck getting a quiet one
An airlock or extraordinary amount of microbubbles circulating in the loop

For the design of the build, i wanted to mount the pump sideways as i know the EK FLT is able to... but it seems the Alphacool one has a harder time pushing water as the flow drops considerably... does not help when the HW Labs rads are pretty restrictive together with the TG block.

I made the mistake of dumping 250ml concentrate and 1L of water into the loop, not reading the instructions carefully that the concentrate only needs around 100ml to 1L of water, so it started foaming like crazy, and still persisted even flushing out the loop with just water, so it's back to the drawing board to redesign the loop with the Alphacool res in it's default orientation, and to stick with water+dye

This was how it looked before i dismantled it again.

I have also purchased a number of different types of rubber mounts to see if the vibrations disappear so will update how that goes.

Lastly i purchased Silent Coat from Ebay but seems this is a knock off version as it was surprisingly cheap for the size and the rubber adhesive was not the butyl type but just plain adhesive. With the amount of clearance i have between the case panel and reservoir, a shoggy sadwich would be ideal but will not work, as i doubt i can compress the thickness of it to under 5mm.

Which coolant did you have that foamed?

I used EK Cryofuel (yellow, with a few drops of red dye to make it orange), and it did foam up a bit initially, but it settles down after a little while, once the loop has been running for a little while & most of the air is removed.

What are the rubber mounts like? How thick, dense etc? You want some reasonable thick and soft really. If it's too think or dense then the vibrations will just go straight through it.

If its a noisy pump you would here motor noise rather than vibrations. Could potentially have an airlock I guess, small bubbles have a tendency to sit near the impellar in the res and makes noise.

Those flat res' are more hassle than they are worth.

Mayhems UV Blue Concentrate. Probs due to being impatient, i didn't shake the bottle either as it was sitting on my shelf for a good month or two. I did the usual rocking of the case, leaving the port open and full rpm for >24hrs.. monitored it as the AC HF LT either measured around 20-24 (l/h?).. can't remember what that sensor measures in, and sometimes dropping below that to the point the sensor errors and shows 0.0 flow.

The original mounts were the ones which came with the case.. they are actually the ones you use to mount the SSD to the chassis, as the diameter of the smaller side is flexible to push into the hole of the case (with the dental floss trick).

There is another mount i found in my stash which is slightly fatter (like an oval ball so to speak) and will squash it between the case panel and the mounting bracket. It's too dense to squeeze it in the case hole i made, while the screw is countersunk and will screw flush to the case itself (i drilled a 4mm hole and used a countersunk bit).. no padding on that end.

I'll get pictures of those when i get home from work.

The reservoirs are ok in my opinion.. as long as its running in the default orientation. As soon as you deviate from that/get creative, it's a major hassle. I had the same air locking issue with my Mini, but not to the extent i'm experiencing with this case.

If the hums still persist, and from what i have monitored in terms of flow rate, i may consider replacing the flat reservoir with an Alphacool Dual D5 top or an Iceman Dual D5 mount and screw it directly to the base of the case.. however if i did that, i would need to find a suitable reservoir for easier filling.. and with the space i have left, that will be difficult. With the amount i have been bleeding and filling, i will keep this as an option for the new year (missus complaining about the mess and using 'her' dining table as a workshop)

Edit: check previous posts.. the mounts i am testing with are these - https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51SP0o3Pf0L._AC_SL1100_.jpg
The original mounts i tried were the SSD anti-vibration mounts

slightly off topic.. i remember someone posting a contact to use to get custom distroplates made.. anyone know who that is? would be ideal creating a dual D5 pump/res of a certain size

That's the only thing that's stopped me getting the dual top, I have a spare d5 but squeezing in a suitable reservoir could prove tricky. Wish I still had my Swiftech Micro Res.
If you do go that route though I'd avoid the Iceman top as it features an aluminium plate on the top which I'm near 100% sure comes in contact with the water!

That very possibly was me

@Jay85 is worth asking who he uses too
He did say ages ago
But as usual I forgot lol

I believe thats the metal/brass version. I saw they do an acrylic version but don't seem to see any metal from the pictures. Will ping them an email to find out

thanks for this.. may be worth investing some time to see if i can get a mini dual D5 reservoir which would fit in the same location as where the res is at the moment

That was 3 or 4 years ago I think
He paid £250
Which for a one off job doesn't seem unreasonable
