Hey all,

This may have been asked before but the search didn't turn up too much.

With the current cashback promotions running by both canon and nikon the D5100 and 600D both look pretty attractive price wise!

The D5100 with kit lense lands up being £350 after cashback, and the 600D ends up being £415.

Which of these two cameras would you go for, and why?

Thanks :)

Given that both cameras offer pretty much the same functionality it comes down to price and image quality.

The Nikon is better in both respects and would the one I would choose. Stick a Nikon 35mm f1.8 on the front and you've got an awesome combination.

The reason the Nikon is better is the sensor in the 5100 is still one of the best performing on crop bodies for dynamic range and high iso output and at its current price its stupidly cheap.

How do the two cameras compare against this years released Nikon 3200? I have seen a decent price for a 3200 with 18-105mm lens for a couple of quid above £500, or the 5100 with an 18-55 & 55-200mm double lens offer for £475. So spoilt on choices, although the 18-105mm lens sounds more versatile for a wide range of photos than lumping around 2 lenses (If you like walking and what not like I do).

Appears to be a bit of a minefield from my current research!

The only thing swaying me towards the 600d is the 60 fps at 720p - may be useful for the odd bit of video I take!

The Nikon is certainly cheaper, but by the time you add the 35mm lense capable of auto focus should you desire it, there isn't a lot in it!

I don't get what mean about 35mm lens.

Canon offer a 35mm f2.0 for £210.00, but it as worse image quality and is slower.
The Canon EF 35mm f1.4 L USM is faster but costs £1079.00

The Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8 G DX only costs £139.40, a relative bargain. Canon just don't have a 35mm lens to compare with.
