Da Mics Sky Thread

da_mic_1530, quick question, out of laziness really, but we are moving home on the 29th of jan.
Currently we have sky+ downstairs, and sky HD upstairs in my room.
When should we phone regarding moving the sky to the new house (they already have sky there) and is there any cost?

Regards

On a related note, does this work if you don't want an "install"?

For example, I've set us up with Freesat HD already which uses exactly the same Satellites as Sky, so would literally just need to be posted a Sky box and Sky viewing card. Given that I managed to align the dish to a small flying box 24,000 miles away I would like to think that I'm capable of plugging the box in without an "engineer" coming!

Self install launching this jan

Self install does sound good :)

See what I mean though? Given that I've managed to wall-drop the cables (Octo LNB) and align a dish to the satellite 24,000 miles away, and get 10 Quality 10 Strength :D, having an "engineer" come (yes before you guys all start I know they haven't done engineering degrees, but it's what they call themselves!) is a bit of a waste, and surely the fact that I don't need the engineers time or a dish or any cable = moneys!?

Tell you what would be great, just supplying the viewing card and CAM/CAM software. My TV (Panasonic V10) has got a built in Sat tuner which I'm currently using for Freesat HD, and just sticking a card and CAM in the slot would be a lot nicer than having to have a separate box and another remote! (Not forgetting the waste of materials and that the Sky HD box costs £150).

ah nuts, got mine coming on 12th but would rather have installed it myself
im not gonna be in at the time of installation but do i need to be concerned with engineers using brown box models? or are they all retail?

does seem like a good option for those of us who'd rather handle our own av equipment :)

i do feel rather peeved at spending the £60 fee hey ho :p

is there any chance that i'll be getting one of the newer boxes or are they going to be phasing them in this month?

I'm going to order Sky HD in the next few days, new customer... what's the best offer currently on? No movies or sport! Can you get me a deal? :D

do you have any info on skys video on demand service for the sky+hd boxes, read a while ago they were testing it and it was going to launch this year

I haven't read any of the other threads in the home cinema section so don't shout at me if it's already been answered! :(

We seem to have a problem that coincides with very heavy snowfall that we've had last night and this morning. Pictures on most channels have been breaking up and the sound is coming and going. The majority of channels say no satellite signal is being received. There may be a bit of snow on the dish but I don't want to scrap it off in fear of misaligning the dish.

Is there a problem in certain areas because of the weather, do you know? :)

If it helps my postcode is NP44 5TE.

Cheers in advance. :)
