I was wondering about what will happen to FM car radios when the FM radio stations all go over to DAB?
I am aware you can buy adaptors, but I already use one for my ipod touch & because there's so much interference from radio stations when I'm driving around locally, I've given it up as a bad idea & gone back to playing CD's instead.

I don't think that Toyota will be making DAB head units for their older cars either, so if FM is switched off shortly in the future that's my car radio made redundant & other nickable gizmo I've got to put in my car if I want to listen to the radio.

Don's - if I've posted this in the wrong forum feel free to move this.

Thoughts anyone?

There isn't a date for switch off, as the last one given (2015) has now been dropped. I think it will be another 10 years although I find it odd that more new cars don't have DAB as standard.

at the moment DAB is a waste of time, no signal in more areas than you get one

if you hire a car in the US and try their satellite radio you will see how it should be done

FM will eventually be switched off, but it almost certainly won't be before 2017, and it is more likely to be in around 2020. LINK
DAB and the alleged switch-off of FM is just a scam to encourage people to throw out perfectly good FM kit and replace it with DAB - a typical Capitalist rip-off ploy to encourage consumption and waste

Yes, they have this in Canada too ...well across the whole of North America and it's brilliant, absolutely brilliant, 400 odd stations of anything you like really and no signal problems or anything. Great. I would love to know why we don't have this here ...it could work across all of Europe.

I would love Sirius here!

DAB is rubbish technology that in many ways is inferior to what it is replacing - particularly in terms of power use (for portable sets) and sound quality.
