Hello All,

Well it's day nine of me becoming a Dad, so far so good, he's been very noisy today but I think he's just tired, just taken him on a drive and he's fast asleep at last!!!!

Anyways I was wondering if anyone could share some tips when it comes to changing the little lad. He absolutely hates it! Screams the house down, in fact he starts screaming as soon as he's placed on the changing table. You'd swear we were torturing him or something.

We've tried giving him a dummy during changing time but he just spits it out, we've tried with one of us comforting him while the other changes him, we've tried putting a hand on his chest to make him feel safe.

Anyone else had this?

We had a winnie the pooh draw string jobby that played a tune that kept her occupied whilst changing, whatever happens always remember it won't be for ever and he will get used to it before you know it, but try and find a toy he likes to occupy him whilst you change him would be my advice.

As long as your not doing anything wrong don't pander to littlun you'll dig yourself a big hole called attention that's difficult to get out of, let him scream just as you will have to do at bed times

you just gotta get on with it im afraid. the more you do it, the more he will get used to it. hell, our little girl hates her nappy being changed and she 18months! :D

I can't imagine it's very nice to get all clothes forced on you, head stuck and all!

If there is no way to calm him down you just be fast and get on with it. He will learn at some point that it's not that bad.
Or at least when he gets older it will be easier to entertain and distract him anyway :p

As above just get on with it, all 3 of my boys have been like that - I used to just sing a song/make funny faces or just ignore it if that didn't work - before you know it he'll have grown out of it.

One other word of advice - imo get rid of the dummy as soon as possible, my first son (all grown up now :() never used a dummy, never had any problems at bedtimes over the years from what I remember. My other two (2/3), my missus never weened them off soon enough and we had endless trantrums over dummies. Just a thought...

Enjoy being a dad - watch time fly by! :)

They go through SO many phases too, so this week he'll hate being changed and next week he'll giggle through it.

I would try a musical mobile above the changing table, singing songs (ones with actions like tickling etc) and generally make a big game out of it. He's a bit young for anything much anyway.

If he's not being manhandled a bit or too cold then you're doing okay despite the crying.

Welcome to fatherhood it's all like this! Sometimes I wish they would come out ready to talk, life would be SO SO SO much easier!

indeed. remember he is only 9 days out of the warm, cosy, safe womb. he'll probably hate the breeze of air over his body and hence why he is crying whenever the nappy is off.

If he is cold then that won't help. The main thing is the art of distraction you'll be a 7th Dan Master of it by the time he is three. I'd also watch out for the whole taking them out for a drive to fall asleep, it can be habit forming and you'll always end up having to do it.

Father of two wonder boys btw.

as said, dont worry about it, he will get used to it! My 23 month old also still doesnt really like it.

We had a painted paper plate on a bit of string above Olivers table, he loved staring at it while being changed!

try changing him on your knee,

when our son was born (hes 3 now!!) we bought all the extras changing table, changing mat, baby bath and all the other little wallet drainers. 90 percent of them are useless

we have always changed our son and daughter on our knee and never had any problems + i think its very awkward on a changing table/mat whereas on your knee you can control there movements support there head and make them feel comfortable only ever had a few minor incidents with containment also which is good :)
