Ok I've got permission to start a thread specifically for those of us blessed with Twins or Triplets. My twin boys Alex and Lewis, are 3 years old today.

Birthdays with multiples is a bit different from single babies. The amount of presents they get is insane...and it's just before Xmas so they will get even more. I need a bigger house lol :)

Who else, as well as @grumpybeard, has more than one?

At least with twins you can give them the same thing at each meal time, they start school/creche/activities at the same time in the same place, each doctors checkup is at the same time, they have the same routine etc.

If you think twins are hard, try having two kids under 2 years old with completely different rhythms and requirements!

Triplets and above however... I can't begin to imagine how much of a pain that can be even with them all having the same needs. If you have more kids under 2 than you have hands, and you are coping well, then you are a super hero!

If you think twins are just two of everything lol. Twins are their own person too. My two won't eat the same food, they don't go to sleep at the same time, they have different routines as well. They may be from the same egg but they are two different kids....at the same time. Having just 1 for one year first is a shock to the system but two at the same time in year one is relentless. You can't just say "it's your turn" to the wife and go back to sleep. Twins crying wakes the other and you're both up with both babies.

Only other twin dad's can relate to what I'm saying

Twin girls here, aged 33 months.

They are the best fun. They do make me melt but when my mrs goes to work on a sunday i go insane. I doff my cap to any full time parent to twins and over. you have to have a lot of patience

It is a bit tough on them though, such as going out, you kinda dont bother as the grief it gives you when they act up

edit to @Kreeeee comments.

Yes a younger and older child close together say 1 year apart is probably more difficult, as is a pair of different sex twins. they share clothes etc. There is a thing though of one being slightly older teaching the young one but it can work the other way i suppose

What is this?? Like me saying I'm 399 months. Should you not be using years by now? :D

I usually say years but there nearly 3 so say months as it gives a idea.

There two and three quarter years old

Or just to be simple

There 3 in March

It just really annoys me that people with twins think they have it harder than other parents with two very young kids. Your two will still start school on the same day and in the same location, they still have the same nourishment requirements, they will have the same size nappies, go to the same swimming lessons, both be at the right age to do activities etc.

In a lot of ways twins are easier than having two extremely close together, but there is always the "oh you just don't know how hard it is" line that gets thrown back.

Take what I say with a pinch of salt though. I look after my two young kids (6 months and 20 months) and work 60% while my partner works 100% (really they work 120-130% on average) and I still get stay at home mums and dads to twins telling me how easy I have it.

Didn't really notice anyone making that point and have to say I have't really experienced it myself (my daughter and twin boys are 2 1/2 years apart).

I've said as much before, in my eyes having twins felt like having 1.5 children. Some bits were more difficult, some things are no different to having just one and some things have been easier.

Thanks for creating the thread @subbytna, moral support from the lads welcome!

As father of newborn twin girls (~6 weeks corrected age now), and my first children, it has shell shocked the Mrs and I, although we are slowly seeing the light as the girls are now starting to sleep earlier and longer at night - just about to transition from 6 feeds per day to 5.

I have no doubt that 2 children close in age as very challenging as well. Our girls can be quite often slightly out of sync with waking/crying etc, so as one is soothed to sleep the other wakes and cries. This is the relentless part of having twin newborns.

However they are an absolute delight and rock my world, and even though they haven't a clue what's going on, this Papa is really enjoying Xmas with them around. Wrapped first presents as a parent the other night and it was a special moment. Have my Santa outfit ready :)

I have twins on the way, due around may. Would be a lovely time if I didn't already have 3 kids haha, 2 and a half / 4 and 7.

We wanted a 4th child but didn't bank on twins lol

This Christmas is pretty busy and expensive, I estimate we have spent around 700 on presents for the three but this will be huge more when the twins are a bit more grown up.

That's the reason though. It is harder. You had a year to work with one, child will probably be sleeping through the night, before #2 arrives. I'm not dissing you though, just stating there's a difference between 2 at the same time and one, then another, a year or more later. You know yourself how utterly dependent a newborn is, then here's 2 newborns with different feeding times and sleep times. I often remember when it was every 3 hours feeding, one would take an hour or two hours to feed, change and settle, then you'd just closed your eyes for 15mins when the other baby would start. Weeks of that lack of sleep makes you almost delirious, there's no break. That's why we moan about it being hard. I get your point though. A newborn and a toddler have their own tribulations to deal with :)

Anyone seeing their two fight more and more? Our two just turned 3 on Saturday and it's like someone has flicked a switch. Fighting a lot more in the last week. Christmas spirit with them both? Yeah right lol. Becoming the master of distraction now though....

This evening my two have been the worst ever. They are linked somehow when one cry’s the other does. They don’t do as they are told ever. They laugh when I act cross and just screw your head up

Back to work can’t come soon enough

I have 2 daughters 15 months apart (6 & 5 now) and a little boy 9 months old. I don think i could have coped with the stress of twins at that early age, but right now, i would be happier with twins to make the logistics of school and what not easier.

Theres no easy way with children. The only ones who have it easy are couples with no children and who dont want children lol.

Out of interest, those of you with children with birthdays close to xmas, do you buy them presents for both events? my daughter is a late november baby, we came up with a plan of giving them both a normal present in late november and just a token gift at xmas. I probably sound like a right old scrooge dad, but kids have so much stuff now its crazy. A friend has just bout his 3 and 4 years olds ipads, which i think is mad!

A girl and a boy twins here. Turned 11 on Christmas Eve. Couldn't be more different. And it's days of presents giving around this time of year. Mental. :D

Thinking of starting potty training our two now. Just turned 3 there at Xmas. Any tips? Are pullup nappies worth it? Both are boys I might add.

Did anyone just book a week off work and cleaned up the mess each day until they got the hang of the potty?
