Daft Punk

The weakest tracks are Contact / Doin It Right by quite a way.

The rest is glorious and is probably the most enjoyable album that they've done to be honest.

The album is certainly a grower but I'm glad it's not like Discovery/HAA and I think the only people that are disappointed are the ones that were hoping for more 'One More Time' style tracks which I'm glad aren't apparent. This is much more rewarding.

Managed to listen to most of it on grooveshark, it was missing tracks 8-9, one of which I am assuming is get lucky. Have to agree with Bucket on Contact and Doin it right being the weakest tracks by some distance, but could tell it will be one of my fav albums for some time when it turns up.

Yep, 8 is Get Lucky and 9 is Beyond :)

very disappointed, this album doesn't have that same feel to the first album they released, it doesn't even touch it..

only or 2 good songs.

Same...I like that they have tried something a bit different, but im a fan of the chunkier stuff they have always done, theirs nothing really that stands out, except the last track, which because the listing on Grooveshark was done backwards I was really happy then it went to all the other artists etc, and didnt find any of it that good.

It's interesting how people take to things differently.

For me, Contact shouldn't have even made the album and should have been kept to the digital extra editions if anything.

In terms of quality of the songs it doesn't even get close to the first album Discovery

One more time, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Face to Face all classic Daft Punk songs.

Is this album still created by the same people who made the tracks above?

Discovery is the second album ;).

It's a different sound, which they've done with every album pretty much. They've moved to live instruments rather than masses of sampling and digital effects and it's a much more developed and mature sound.

To say that the quality of the songs doesn't get close to Discovery is just going in with the blinkers on because it's not a repetition of an album that you like. It's not an album with instant 3 minute snap crackle pop bangers that you can dip in and out of and get a school disco going with, it's a much more rewarding listen.

they could have knocked out ten albums like discovery , infact other artists have been making discovery style tracks for the last 10+ years

they have always been about trying something new , every album has upset a big group of fans while gaining a new group of fans and i dont know why anyone expected this one to be different

they have too many fans to please them all , im just glad they have stuck to what they wanted to do. im not into a lot of this album but the production is just incredible at a time when people are making hits by numbers. technically they are two of the all time greats.

Everybody always goes on about Discovery, am I the only one who thinks homework is miles better than anything they have done since?

Can't beat the house groove

Eeer no i think that is the common consensus, at least from people who heard homework before discovery.

Was bugging me last night what this new album reminded me of, remembered this morning. Air did it better 15 years ago on Moon Safari:eek:

I have followed Daft Punk since 1995 and there release of Da Funk and I have enjoyed the techno sound they produced which is quite apparent from french artists such as Cassius etc but as time has come on and much to do with Discovery being over successful they are now as you put evolving and have lost that feature I loved about them.

The new album is quite bland and can certainly be enjoyed with a glass of pimms but in no way stands up to a re-watch of Interstellar5555.

Unfortunately with Discovery which I thoroughly enjoyed most people turn off after track 6 or head straight to harder faster stronger which was a weaker single off of the album now enjoyed by many more because of the crappy re-use of the sample. RAM is actually the 8th release (going off memory and including best of's and live albums) with the last three actual studio own sound (not including Tron) albums all having a very similar sound (Homework, Discover and Human after all)

The Alive albums are what Daft Punk are all about the 2007 release being my favorite such an amazing live act.

Alive 2007 is immense love that album, None of the others come close for me, even though the songs feature on earlier albums.

The reason I enjoy the album so much is because it's a departure from those three previous albums. I enjoy when a band evolve and develops their style and I enjoy this album a lot. I think perhaps for a lot of people it's not 'Daft Punk' or 'Electronic' enough, but I think what they've done as assemble a great cast of guests and create an album that is an assortment of random pops and bangs of musical gems that as a listener is more entertaining, perhaps not as much for a live act but I couldn't comment without experiencing the album live (only from it's less instant and in your face nature of previous albums).

With regards to Discovery I'd agree anyway; the second half of the album is the better half and most of what I dislike about the album is due to it being over played and becoming far too repetitive.

There is also a strong link between music and memories; for people that Discovery was released in a fond period of time in their life it's going to be very difficult to beat, it's an album which they may be emotionally or sentimentally attached to (I'm like this with several albums, they may not be the best of the band but they are to me) and I think for a lot of Daft Punk fans it's going to be that period of time.

It will be interesting to see how the album is worked into an Alive tour.

I reckon they'll still be able to pull something special out of the bag, haven't given up hope entirely;)

I also have no problem with them trying something different here, but different does not neccessarily = better. I hope this a departure rather than a new direction. This is a decent album, but it's not Daft Punk!

The second half of Discovery is the better half?

That's pretty bold, you can't deny the power of those 4 singles! Some great songs at the end though. Anyone else notice Voyager is sampled in that song 'I can't wait for the weekend to begin'? :)
