well after passing my test today(first time) I'm thinking of getting one just wondering what peoples experiences are and how reliable they are.

also what mileage to buy and what are some common faults ?

its a jTURBOd proper fast mate. allthough it has given us a few good holidays in the sun this year :)

I wouldn't have thought there would be much difference insurance wise between the Charade and the Swift, both are early 90's 100 BHP small warm hatches. An AX GT/GTi may be another option as well.

Any Charades still in existence are surely going to be dogs?

Is a Starlet Turbo out of price/insurance range?

maby and no i cant afford insurance on a starlet turbo for a charade its around £1800 starlet around £4000 and a corsa sxi 1.2 around £1500

just got a quick quote on a SUZUKI SWIFT 1.3 GTI 1298cc (same price insurance just about) are these as fast as the Charade ? just looked there about a second slower 0-60 and i cant seem to get the appeal of a turbo out of my head i just love the power delivery (same as 2stroke motos :P)

The charade is/was a good little car.

However due to their age and the fact they've never exactly been common finding one that's worth having that's not a ridiculous price I think will be quite a task.

Swift is another good shout.

All the average Charades should be dead by now. The only ones left should be good or awful.

I've driven a few of these things, they feel like they are made from that foil stuff in a pack of cigarettes. They can rot at an unbelievable rate if you don't look after them. Interior is pretty heinous late 80's Jap fare. Oh and they can really catch you out with lift off oversteer as well.

They don't half go though. Sound cool too.

Second what Lopez says, lift off oversteer is for men tho, just gotta be prepared for it and ready to plant the foot again :D

They are a hoot to drive, the engines are very strong and they are a good revvy package.

If you get one, look after it and keep it alive, they are getting very rare!

what other little turbos are there that are fast and reasonable to insure then ? :D

Dude. You're not really gonna get anything that's fast and reasonable to insure at your age. My group 15 is still costing me 1k at 21.

Perhaps a Fiesta? Focus? You may stick your nose up at Saxos but at the end of the day...

Anyway.. and just when you mentioned your Dads insurance.. don't even consider it, it's Illegal and insurance companies are clamping down on it.. google 'Fronting'

Just buy a cheap shed, save your money for another year or 2 then get something better when you have the NCB to knock down your insurance.

I'd rather make my dad drive my car so he can do the insurance... Oh wait, that's what I did, I let him drive to work in my car so insurance is only 17€ per month rather than 85€ per month, I'm in bed or at uni at those early hours anyways :). I'd rather wait till I have my license a year or two before even attempting my own insurance...

The D C GTTI are expensive now because there isnt many around. I was looking at one a while back and saw one for around £2k modded up. The only good thing about owning a GTTI would be the surprise element when owning people at the lights other than that I couldnt think of any other reason of owning one.
