Daily Mail pays damages to J K Rowling

Pretty much all newspapers are pages of total ******** filled with political agendas and propaganda.

I don't read newspapers, nothing good will ever come of it.

Good for her.. Although the paper must have known there would have been some litigation for defaming before going to press and maybe took that on board.

Indeed - the viewpoint of the daily mail at the time...
“I urge all British young men and women to study closely the progress of the Nazi regime in Germany. They must not be misled by the misrepresentations of its opponents. The most spiteful detractors of the Nazis are to be found in precisely the same sections of the British public and press as are most vehement in their praises of the Soviet regime in Russia. They have started a clamorous campaign of denunciation against what they call “Nazi atrocities” which, as anyone who visits Germany quickly discovers for himself, consists merely of a few isolated acts of violence such as are inevitable among a nation half as big again as ours, but which have been generalized, multiplied and exaggerated to give the impression that Nazi rule is a bloodthirsty tyranny.”

A truly lovely paper.

Pre-war Germany would undoubtedly have been quite admirable to people at the time. It went through immense national revival in a short space of time. Let us remember that other newspapers were praising Uncle Joe and the Soviet Union.

If the Daily Mail is the most revolting major news outlet in the UK; which is saying something given the competition.

As for who reads the Daily Mail, you can see some (slightly dated) stats here: it's fairly average on the class breakdown of readers with many more ABC1 readers than C2DE, skews towards an older readership and has a more even male/female balance of readers than any other major UK paper.

J K Rowling wrote her first Harry Potter book when she was living on benefits. She feels that she owes this country something. The country invested in her and now she wants to invest back into the country.

Good on her. :)

I remember seeing one of the Sky documentaries of her years ago before her fame. She spent a lot of her time in coffee shops during rainy days as well writing them while keeping warm.

Amazing when you think of it. From an ordinary joe to a big billionaire, under what? 10 years? It was a great documentary.

Most mega-rich people are generous with their wealth. If you have a billion pound, giving a few hundred million to charity is no big deal. It makes you feel better about your wealth, raises your profile and can even serve your own interests.

That is by no means a complaint of course, but I'm not especially impressed by the generosity of the filthy rich. I am far more impressed by the generosity of the very poor.

Indeed, and she pays more UK tax than the starbucks she sat in does ;)
Indeed giving more to charity each year than they pay in tax.

Did you hear about the one of the little boy that gave the firefighters £1 for their biscuits and because of that they gave the little boy a tour of the fire station.

...I'd be willing to bet they probably are.

Wow! You think most British people areRacists, homophobes and xenophobes !!!!??

Why don't you emigrate then.

I feel sorry for you I really do, have a nice life just hope that chip on your shoulder don't hold you back to much.

What I can't get over is how so many people still read papers or the online equivalent. Let alone pay for subscriptions. All you ever need to see is Sky News or BBC cover the paper reviews before midnight and end up shaking your head at the garbage and trivia in them. Including all the negativity. You hardly ever, ever hear any good of this country. Even watching some of the news presenters getting all giddy over some of the stories in the papers is quite saddening.

If one believed the papers you'd honestly get sucked into a twisted bitter warped mind thinking the UK is a hell hole.

Wonder how many law suits it'll take before they try and somewhat clean up their act.

They wont. When they print their libellous articles they factor in the expected costs of law suits. If it will still turn a profit they run it anyway.
