[DailyTech] HD 2900 XT Benchmarks!

Dutch Guy said:
Wouldn't be surprising that the XTX isn't that much faster than the XT if GDDR4 @ 2200Mhz is indeed just as fast as GDDR3 @ 1600Mhz.

All the XTX has more is a little bump in core clockspeed, double the memory (which is possibly not used) and possibly slower operating memory.

Wasn't the 8800 Ultra supposed to be 675Mhz corespeed?

Not sure but my 8800 does 650mhz with ease

If true that is shocking.

Not really as gaming performance is where it counts. A good example would be the 8600GTS which beats the X1950pro in 3dmark tests but gets beaten by the X1950pro in real gaming benchmarks (by quite a bit).

I'm not saying this will be the case but just because the XTX gets beaten in 3dmark doesn't mean it will be slower overall.

Interestingly they do the 320Mb GTS for €276, but the 640Mb is €373. Seems thats the target.

Well, if it beats the GTX in games it was never going to cost under £200 but we still don't know how it will perform...nor what it will cost in the UK ;)

Maybe that was what ATI had in mind, but perphaps they did not realize that Nvidia would release a 320MB model that is almost as fast as a 640MB one in most sitautions?

I recall the GFX makers saying they wanted to be more open with multi GPU configurations so does anyone know if they'll be open enough to allow a crossifre of these 2900s in an SLi mobo?

Can't see that happening somehow, Nvidia cards on an ATi board will never happen, or vice versa, 2x of their cards will only go on their boards, if you buy 2x of their cards then you buy their motherboards as well, they want to make money not lose it, they get more money out of ppl by making their SLi/Crossfire cards only compatible with their own boards for an SLi/Crossfire config. :)

For shame :(

Yeah the cracked SLI drivers worked fine in my experience, not sure how upto date they are now though. I think the guy was still producing them but haven't been following to see the latest version.

Weirdly enough companies like Dell offer some systems with either an x1950-xtx Xfire setup or 8800GTX sli setup. The thing is, the motherboard is the exact same down to the bios. The board itself is a hybrid 570/590 sli chipset which uses standard nvidia motherboard/graphics drivers. It's the custom ati catalyst driver they use which allows you to use crossfire on this board. Of course you can kiss good by to regular updates or any chance of running r600 in Xifre I would say. Pity. The drivers are free to download off their site.
