DAM COMMON COLD :@

Use a combination of Vick's vapour rub for chest and under nose and drink brandy. Trust me - it cures everything.... (or you get so hammered you think you're cured).

I haven't had one since I was a child but if I even get a hint of a cold, I do that and it seems to nip it in the bud. :)

Pretty good plan. Prevention is the only real way. Cold "cures" generally do nothing for me except with a very sore throat they can anesthetise it a little (beechams lemon sweet things). Eat lots of fresh fruit, especially oranges and don't use the bus/train :p ;)
 
I expect it does. I suggest fruit though as fruit is generally nourishing and it will support your immune system, it's been known for years. People who eat little or no fruit and veg are more likely to get ill.
 
Colds are suffered by people who are obsessive about cleanliness. Give your immune system some challenges, don't drink so much bottled water, etc. No more coughs and colds. :)
 
It doesn't matter how healthy you are, or if you drink bottled water or not, if you're exposed in a close proximity to a number of people with a rhinovirus(es) you will most likely catch them.

You can't immunise yourself to them, the only thing you can do is keep your immune system strong, with a healthy intake of fruits/fish/healthy oils and limit your exposure to people who have the virus.
 
Vitamin C does not cure colds. However, by maintaining a healthy diet, especially lots of vitaminC, you can help prevent colds :)
 
Hot Toddy...

Double sized whisk(e)y in half pint glass.
Add an equal amount of fresh orange juice.
Top up with hot water.
Stir in 1 teaspoon of golden syrup.

Any old cooking whisk(e)y will do :)

Agreed, but you won't get the full amount of vitamin C cause it's water soluble. As soon as the tablet hits the water, the amount of vitC goes down....still gives enough to be a cold beater though.

Also try Echinacea (sp?) - very very very good stuff. Boosts the immune system in general. As soon as I feel a little under the weather, start taking it and cold (or whatever) comes to nothing.....

What kind toddy is that (starts toddy war)

Brandy,
Paracetamol,
lemon,
honey,
Boiling water.

Add all ingredients to taste.

Drink whilst still hot, in bed just before falling asleep.
 
Seriously, the best way to clear your nose out is to eat a raw spring onion - the bigger the better. It might make your eyes water, but you'll feel a hell of a lot better.
