Internet is dam slow again :(, it has not been to bad for a few days :o

If Richard Branson came to my house i make him download his name 100 times :D, that would make him sort out virgin broadband :p

/rant off

i got the same problem which is why i cameto these parts of the forum to make a thread. it has been extremely bad for over a week now, to hte point i cannot do much as it just takes so long and i end up waiting for google to load.

my mum believes it is because of our router (though this has never been a problem) but she says the problem gets fixed when she unplugs everyone elses pc other then her 2 in the office which is right next to router.

even at fastest point in day speedtest only gives me around 2000 when afaik we are on the fastest package, like £50 per month.

anyone got a clue why this is? i know they are upgrading people in guildford area this months so that was my initial thought but it has lasted so long now and i have only lost speed and never gained

Oh my not a lot i can say about my speedtest

Started it went and had a cuppa and when i came back it was 74 kbps UP and 376 Kbps DOWN , not bad for a 8mg line with virgin ;)

i had a vm engineer show me a schedule of upgrades and my area was due for 2nd week april and today till 7pm i have had 19mbs all day and from 7 till midnight i am recieving 5mbs whicj falls under the traffic magement hours. although i can actually load up web pages where before was terrible. just glad i got hold of an engineer who spoke the truth.

daveyp: we had an engineer come the other day as we had no net, he told us they had an outage and that it was fixed, which is when problems first came, though this may just be coincidental the trouble is it happens all the time, we have tv and phones with them too and far too often a guy will come tell us one story say it's fixed, then next guy comes says the last guy has no clue but it's this, now it's fixed, rinse repeat.

Thanks for the info ;)

I live in Neath, which is in the west glamorgan area, does anyone know if there is any upgrades or something going on, just browsing the net is slow going :p

Unless a truck load of sheep has hit a line down :D

mine again i think this is one of the largest speed packages you could get with virgin, so obviously not too happy with it

Nice ping! :D

Seems like Virgin are FUBARing their network all over the place. Didn't they do this when they were expanding to 20Mb?

Well our area got upgraded yesterday so i have managed to see what time the 20mbs becomes 5mbs according to their traffic shaping. 6:30pm - 11:30pm i get 5mbs after that a straight 20mbs. At least now with the traffic shaping i can view web pages where before well lets not get me started.

The 20Mb only gets capped to 5Mb if you download more than 3GB or upload more than 1.5GB, between the hours of 4pm and 9pm. If you hit those limits, you will be capped to 5Mb for 5 hours, regardless of the time.

Just learn how to schedule your downloads. It's not so hard.

Just a quickie, but Mr Branson has nothing to do with Virgin Media, he sold NTL the rights to the name after they messed up and went into Chapter 11. The Virgin brand name is simply a rebadging of old NTL because of their poor reputation.

Hello

I know about the limits and all i did yesterday was to download a 200mb file and then 4 hours later at 6:30pm the traffic management started so vm do still traffic shape certain areas regardless if you dont go over the 3gb limit.

I just did a quick scan myself.

This is average for me on my 20Mb connection, what I like though it before when my old modem was playing up, they gave me a new attuenator which cut my 20Mb down to 5Mb all the time.

Dont trust speedtest imo, its rubish. When i use it, it says im only get 14 to 16 Mb. Yet if i try to download from a decent source, i fully max my connection.
