So i tried to remove the m.2 screw from the top m.2 nvme slot from my gigabyte z790 aorus elite ddr4 and the screw was very stubborn and refused to budge. After a little more i applied a bit more force a got the screw out so i thought and instead had managed to rip the standoff from the motherboard and took a chunk of the pcb layers with it. On closer inspection the m.2 screw and standoff is one piece and was not meant to come off. Had this motherboard for just under 9 months. This motherboard is end of life and had to buy a replacement gigabyte z790 arous elite ax ddr5 which came today and got all setup and i am happy with the small uplift that ddr5 6600mhz gave me. However what can be done in regards to my old damaged board?

Did you actually test the board to see if it had got damaged?

They can be repaired but generally its not worth it if you're paying someone else to do it..and then it will literally have zero resale value.

the board stopped working. it powers on then power straight off so thinking the board is damaged enough that it is shorting or something

Depending on what got damaged and how far it went, that's not an easy fix. Likely not worth repairing.
i would doubt i could even get it replaced by gigabyte as this would be classed as self damage even if the fault was due to a manufacture defect?

Most manufacturers will just refuse warranty on any visible damage (regardless of how/where it originated, e.g. PCB crack due to poor design = user fault).

I don't know if Gigabyte offer paid repair, but I suspect they don't.

Are there any traces there? If it's just the

PCB epoxy and nothing there you might be ok

But if it switches off shorted out

Contact Phil console fix he has repaired damage like yours when component burnt through layers damaged and shorted out ground traces
