Damaged Pcie slot please help!!!

Update on what happened. I managed to fit the board on myself ironically. Had a friend guide me through it all on video call. Which was very hard and took a while. So the gpu turned out to be fine in the end. Fitted the new v3 extreme mobo despite the mobo arrived with nothing and not even the I/O shield plate lol. My old mobos shield does not fit but that's no biggie. So I managed to get both of my gpus working in windows and all. I had to literally uninstall all drivers for the gpus and put it back to stock drivers which was 2006 drivers, then re-install latest drivers.

Now my current issues. In the nvidia control panel there is no SLI option to even enable. I will attach pictures. So I don't know if the SLI bridge is damaged or if it's a pci-e issue. As also my second gpu is running in x4 gen3 on the pci-e slot and my first card is running in x8 gen3 on the pci-e slot. Which I don't understand why or how. And I know for SLI to work both cards need to be running in x8/x8. How do I enable x8 specifically for the second card? I don't want to take the card out to slot it into another pci-e lane because I may run into damaging the board again lol. And I would have to remove the sound card too. Pictures of this will be attached too. And the last thing is, for some unknown reason when the pc is on and running, it sounds like a fan is touching a cable in the pc or like a touching/flicking noise on the pc. This is not major as my pc is running fine currently but the noise is really loud when I'm in the BIOS settings. Eliminating the cause of this noise would be great.

Someone helping me with this would be much appreciated. And the noise I'm getting in my rig which is annoying lol, although I'm suspecting is a fan touching or near a cable attached to the mobo? who knows.

I haven't done any overclock on the cpu and it's currently at 4GHz stock and 4.2GHz boost. I wanted to reapply the overclock to 4.6GHz but I have no experience with overclocking and I don't want any serious problems with the pc, so I just decided not to do it. I don't think that little boost to 4.6GHz will make a good enough difference in performance anyway.

Thanks again guys!

ummm... @2K4KGamer you're gonna hate me lol. actually either of those will fit. i miscalculated and added an extra PCIE width. you only need 82mm+
so...yeah...either will fit.

Well I just tried putting the current bridge on and it reaches the first but only the front casing just past the 3 fans on the front of the card. So the 92mm bridge which is an extra 12mm overall should be enough for the remaining length to reach lol. Let's all pray anyway lol.

And the good news is nvidia control panel recognizes SLI now but it is disabled. System info says both cards are in x8 gen3 lanes. GPU-Z says first card is x8 3.0 and second is x8 1.1. Which I guess is on the right track now :)

I just need to order the I/O back plate which I will do now as well just to finish off this rig. That flicking/kind of touching a cable noise I barely hear. Maybe it comes and goes lol? lastly as I forgot to mention, the mobo displays on the red led letter/number screen at the top "6f" or "bf". Not sure what that means but is it nothing to worry about? The rig seems to run fine so far. I haven't played any games on it yet to really test the rig. But hopefully it runs smooth.

And the overclock to 4.6GHz is not worth it right? I saw in the BIOS that the max frequency is 4200MHz which is 4.2GHz. But the rig operates at 4000MHz/4GHz. Let me know what you think about that.

You've been a big help as usual man, and I thank you for that!

I will be getting a new rig built for 4K gaming very soon as well. And this current pc will be my streaming/second pc. This new rig I'm thinking to go with 32-64GB of ram, rtx 2080 ti, i9 9940x cpu and asus extreme omega x299 mobo. What do you think? only problem is I wanted a true 10-bit HDR panel to go with this rig. But the only panel that's true to 10-bit is the acer predator x27 up to only 97 hertz. The size (27 inch) is to small imo and the price tag on that is just stupid. So I'm stuck choosing a 10-bit HDR panel as there is literally none available right now.

Have you got any thoughts on a good 10-bit HDR monitor?

it's bf and it's nothing to worry about.

if you don't know what you're doing, just leave it. but it's extra performance there to be tapped when you feel like learning how to overclock :)

yeah all looks fine

just wait. ryzen 3000 is coming out in 6 months. see how its performance is like.

4k hdr is expensive on the pc scene right now. you need to spend £2200 on a monitor lol. (asus pg27uq)

A lot of good games are releasing up until the Ryzen 3000 line releases which I’d like to play in 4k hdr. AMD wont be releasing any good gpus to compete with the rtx 2080 ti as well.

You really think waiting till July/August to get a new build is a good idea? A new nvidia card wont release by then to beat the 2080 ti will it?

Even buying the acer predator x27 now to go with my current rig will also be useless, as my rig cant handle 4K 60 fps at all otherwise I would buy that monitor now lol.

And I have this link I found for my mobo and cpu regarding overclocking to 4.6GHz: https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/guide-overclocking-core-i7-6700k-on-the-maximus-viii-extreme/

What do you think overall?

My sli bridge hasn’t arrived yet :P

yes. if ryzen 3000 series is as good as rumours claim, then it'll be better/cheaper than anything on offer currently.

no. if you want to get a new gpu now, then yeah, by all means. nothing on the horizon at the moment that would threaten the 2080ti's performance crown.

2080ti is the first "true 4k gaming" card

looks about right.

:p blame amazon...haha...

So would you think buying the 2080 ti to go with my current rig + the 4k hdr monitor would let me game in 4k now? Even though I only have 16gb of ram and an i7 6700k cpu? I don’t really like that cpu line anymore by the way. Next time I get a rig I will only settle for a cpu that has 12+ cores.

Or shall I just bottle up my impatience and itch to build a new rig and wait till summer then build that rig I wanted? And can one use an AMD cpu/mobo with an Nvidia card? I’m unsure about that.

yes.

probably.

I’ll wait until summer then build my new rig then. I just get worried nvidia will release a better rtx 2080 ti after the summer. As I’d want the king of cards for 4k gaming when I get my new rig. They usually release their new line up of cards in the winter period.

well. 2080ti is already 5 months old :p

I'll do quick research to see if any newer version of a rtx 2080 ti will release in the next 6 months as the 2080 ti will be almost a year old by the time summer rolls by.

So the sli bridge arrived, sli is now indeed working. But why in GPU-Z the PhysX box is unchecked when I set PhysX to the second gpu as shown in the image below in the nvidia control panel? and also CUDA is not checked for the second gpu either which is odd?

leave the settings alone.
you DONT WANT to dedicate your second gpu for physx

as long as it's enabled in nvidia control panel it's working. just probably a bug of gpu-z

Cheers buddy :) I will leave settings as shown in the image. It seems like people are speculating the next set of nvidia cards will roll out either this year or 2020. If by the summer (June) there is no news of nvidia's next set of cards then I'll just settle for the 2080 ti with an AMD cpu (Ryzen 3000). It will be my first purchase for an AMD cpu too lol. I'll go with the most expensive AMD cpu that's best for gaming and for workstation purposes hopefully.

Thanks again for your very swift responses, you've been a big help :D

I guess this thread will come to an end once I dial in my overclocking for the cpu lol. I wanted to overclock the gpus as well but I don't think that will make any difference, especially giving the fact I will build a new rig so I will be using that rig for hardcore gaming and not my current rig.
