Dambusters censored!

It said I should get a reply within 7 days. I think the newspapers should pick up on this story. That movie is a classic piece of British history.

Email the newspapers about it.

Guy Gibsons's dog was named '******' and when he got killed on the morning of Operation Chastise they changed the codeword for a successful breach of the Möhne to '******' in memory of the dog. So by editing out this so called 'offensive' word, they have messed around with one of the greatest military operations ever pulled off, and also the memory of the guys who carried it out!
Oh please, what a load of drivel. It shouldn't have been edited out, but don't be so dramatic.

Are Channel 4 **** scared of broadcasting the word ****** after all the Big Brother nonsense in recent times.
I would assume so.

Its 11:34 pm. Wing Commander Guy Gibson has been called to the diary room

"Guy - use of the 'N' word is strictly forbidden in the RAF house. Despite this you have chosen to name your dog the 'N' word. In light of this rule breach you have been evicted from the RAF".

Believe it or not, ****** (Gibsons dog) used to fly with him - sat in between him & his co-pilot - on non-operational flights! :D

Iirc (from many books I have) ****** used to like to look out of the bomb aimers window in the nose of the Avro lancaster.

Quality film.

Yeah i noticced that. Was wondering if it had been edited or not.

Very sad if you ask me, that dog is a part of history and does play a fairly significant role in that film and editing its name is a disgrace IMO.

What next, are we going to have to change Arnold Swarzeneggers (sp?) name just for how it sounds.

The Dam Busters was broadcast before 9pm whilst the Big Brother edition was broadcast after 9pm with a warning of what was to follow.
The Big Brother broadcast also clearly showed that use of the word ****** was not socially acceptable by showing the reaction of the other housemates and the show's producers.

There are probably closely monitored BBFC guidelines surrounding the use of the word and C4 would no doubt err on the side of caution.

My tuppence.

Might I also point out Kanye West is black and his use of the word constitutes an entirely different connotation that the use of it by a white bloke.

But on the other hand naming the dog ****** was never offensive. "Ooh I love this new dog I have but I hate black people so I'll call it ******, just to spite them!"

I think not!

Or it could be that ****** was a word used to describe black things in the 40's, why would it have to be racist? I know all the bad conotations in it but I do think it is totally stupid.

People need to realise it is not WHAT you say but HOW you say it, and get away from swear words/words with nasty meanings.

Not really my point, what I was getting at is you can't compare a 50s film to 00s rapper and suggest the word connotes the same in both situations, whether it is offensive or not.

ummmm "swearing" cos surprisingly, ****** is a swear word (as well as a really common dogs name) to 99.8% of the known universe, before the watershed isn't really allowed.

Its not PC gone mad its anti-PC gone mad.

Do you think that ****** is really an integral part of the relative failure of the entire bombing campaign, which saw the hydro plants back working a month later?

What a graceful looking aeroplane and such a fantastic noise. Its funny to think how little they are compared to modern a/c though.

The film wouldn't have a 'U' raiting if it was not suitable for pre watershed viewing without censoring would it?
