As subject.

I saw when I searched this forum that a couple of other people have this problem, but with CS.

Anyone know a fix? I get it all the time, I'm pretty much guarunteed that it will crash on the level loading, and randomly in game my gun will just loop the sound file, freeze and only option I have is to hard-reset.

Steam support has some crappy things to try, of course none of them worked.

Asus A8N-e mobo
x1800XT pci-e
1gb ram

Anyone please?

Ah yes, I have perhaps the same problem as you. I have a very similar system (same motherboard? not sure - mine's in my sig). I'm pretty sure there's some hardware incompatibility problem, though I will refrain on saying definately so before I format *again*.

Anyway, I was in dialogue with Valve's support staff over this, and there is an issue, though it appears qutie rare. I get this error message IDirect3DDevice9::Present() some of the time. It will crash often on loading, or on the rare occasion I got in, within say 20minutes. Don't recall a sound bug, though Valve support kept on believing I did, repeatedly asking me to remove my sound card/drivers etc and try, which I did and it had no effect, but they didn't pay attention to. So after half a dozen emails I've found a not very good solution, but it works.

The solution for me is to create a shortcut to Day of Defeat or whatever, and add -autoconfig to the command line. It resets things to defaults. This for a while was touch and go (IIRC!), but has been working fine for a few months now. However any time I open DoD/CS in the browser, without the autoconfig tag I get the crashes etc. I have tried deleting/reinstalling things, but no luck. I've updated sound, video, motherboard drivers (etc), direct x, everything. I hope this works for you!

erf... No luck..

The Asus A8N-e is really popular board... why are so few people having this problem from all the cs and dod players?

nobody has it crash nearly every time the level loads? just sticks on 'requesting server info' or similar

Apart from me :p. But I also get the stuck thing too.

Send a message to the Valve, but I'm not sure how much help they'll be. You'll probably be asked to remove your sound card! Do you get the same error message as me (at least sometimes) btw?
