Hi

Is there anyway I can prevent this from happening?
I normally scrub it all off but then it comes back a few weeks later.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Is it coming from behind the wallpaper or just ontop. If its just onto then you need to find a way of better circulating the air flow. Put in a vent, open windows. Whats on the outside of the wall? Is there any cavity wall insulation?

Try a unibond aero 360 dehumidifier....it's chemical crystal based, I have one in a damp room and empty it once every 4-5 weeks, it's better than running the big electric dehumidifier which I only use if I absolutely have to...

As for the mould, bleach water then anti mould paint

We have had black bits appearing on our upstairs ceilings and window frames since moving in 10 years ago. This is probably due to the double glazing having no vent strips along the top of the frame. In the winter, the windows largely remain closed (or at best on first latch as we don't want the cat falling out). Would definitely give the Aero 360's a go before contemplating more drastic measures. Also make sure you wipe any overnight condensation off interior window panes. That and wipe with a bleach solution as noted and periodically repaint. We also have a cold/slightly damp patch on one of the living room walls (only in the winter), no visible defect outside missing mortar or hole in the wall. Could be a gap in the insulation (if there's even any in the walls) but so long as it can be managed I'm reluctant to hand a builder a blank cheque to investigate, assuming we could even get one interested!

I have been researching this and have came to conclusion of fitting a drinaster heat unit. Costly but it's a rental property and I want a long term solution as tenants might not be as good to the house as if you lived in it yourself
