Anyone used second skin Damplifier for sound proofing their vehicle? Ripping out the interior panels down to the metals not a problem, just wondering what alternatives there are thats easily available in this country. Specifically for noise reduction. I heard carpet underlay is fine stuff for the floor too.

There used to be a product called Dynamat, not sure if its still sold but that was aimed at sound proofing cars.

Also used to be another product about the 1/4 of the price of Dynamat that did the same job but can't remember the name of it (sorry!).

Wasn't it refered to as 'Brown Bread' or maybe that was the actual name for it.

I bought 5m x 1m of unbranded sound deadening from a popular auction site. for £45. Which is quite cheap for sound deadening. Only used about 1/3 and i've deadened the whole boot area and passenger door, with 3 layers behind where the door speaker would go. Difference is unbelievable! You can tell the difference even when you close the door. But it does absolutely stink. Whilist its still rolled up. Once its been in the car a day or two its fine.

a lot of people use a few layers of lead flashing tape

I tried this and tbh I found it to be pretty bad. I ended up using 4 layers to get the same sort of sound deadening as Dynamat. Plus this stuff is quite heavy (not a worry for most users but hey), and it's thick and not quite as easy to work with as Dynamat, especially when you're using several layers.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it's cheap enough, but no substitute for Dynamat, or even the unbranded stuff on the 'bay.

Dynamat is regarded as the best product for sound proofing a car, though it's far from cheap when you start adding it up, especially if you start multilayering. Brown Bread is a lot cheaper though and although it isn't suppose to be as good in single layers, double/triples layers it's suppose to be just as good as dynamat at half the cost or so. Can get it from any DIY store as well.
Might be worth looking on some car audio forums if you're serious about soundproofing your car :)

Never heard of using lead flashing for sound proofing, though to be honest i wouldn't have thought it would have been that good. And i can't say i've heard anyone use carpet underlay either :p

Damplifier's rated as well as Dynamat. Also has liquid versions!

Depends what you want, look on TalkAudio, there's loads of info on sound deadening :)
