Dan Brown

Can you recommend any good, non Dan Brown thrillers instead??

John Le Carre
Frederick Forsyth
Jeffrey Deaver
Ian Flemming

I've also heard good things about Lee Child, Steig Larson and Richard Stark but I haven't got round to picking them up yet.

The above are all light years beyond Brown, he's a decent enough writer but he's not special by any measure.

Thank you very much mate. I'll keep my eye out for their work

Jeffrey Deaver was especially enjoyable (IMO) he's the chap who wrote Bone Collector (made into a popular film with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie)

Dan Brown is pretty much to thrillers what those dumb 'sex' novels are that all in vogue at the moment. It's a read but thats about it. Reading it as a work of literature is like reading The Sun and calling it a newspaper.

His books have made him rich, so someone somewhere has enjoyed his stuff.

I really enjoyed everything bar the 2 latest which were ok (inferno and solomon key?) so much so after reading the Davinci Code i read the rest of his stuff in a week.

I would try the Code and Angels and Demons and if you like them, give the others a try - there aren't many.
