I've had a massive dry spell recently, despondency has been my middle name with regards to photography. Where I live now just doesn't do anything for me photographically, however after sorting out a photobook I decided to get out there again (my file manager suggests the last time I went out was february, when I went on holiday!). Most were terrible but I came across a nice little Dandelion and decided to spend some time with it....

Taken with a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 at f/14 and a set of manual extension tubes. It appears f/14 at this sort of range (the front lens was around an inch from the dandelion) causes one heck of a lot of CA, even ACR couldn't fix it fully!:p

There's one or two other possibles from the shoot but this is definately the pick of the bunch.

C&C welcome:)

Thanks. :)

When I took it I didn't intend to do a B&W, but when I opened it up it was just screaming at me to do it. :p

A second one, this one from a live one, not quite as good but hopefully not too bad.

Think I may go out and get a "just dead" one to complete the set...

there amazing, im know nothing about photography so might be a silly question... is that on a zoom or something? i can clearly see it may well be,just unsure if its like a picture though a microscope !!

looked on your site, didn't see any of these pictures, would love to see more, love wildlife up close like this

;) The extension tubes he's talking about moves the lens further away from the sensor creating the illusion of a 'macro' type lens from an ordinary zoom lens.

yer i understand now almost like spacers, yer i get the idea, further away the more zoom as such i suppose. does look awesome, i looked up micrography some amazing pics too!!

remember seeing some thing about elcro something, the item has to be in some special chamber, and takes like 10000x pictures

As you noticed I don't really have any macro shots on my site, my flickr has a few more as that is where I dump most of my photos, however if you are interested in this there are a few others that do this a lot more than me, Messiah Kahn for one but a couple of others I can't remember (:o) do it as well.

I think the latter thing you are talking about is an SEM (scanning electron microscope), only really found in science labs. :)

Might be just what I like, but for me this is the best of the three.

It has it's charms and in fact I think it looks a bit better bigger too, less crowded as such. :)

I really like the first one.

I also am going through a dry spell. I've not picked my camera up properly since March.

It's really annoying, however I think I've broken mine, I feel like heading out again tomorrow to get some shots. I have a few in mind which is rare too.:p

thats cool by any standard in my book

i do like your work what ive seen of it, and i like abtract/intresting pictures
such as http://imaginggit.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/michael_stringer_pleurosigma.jpg
don't ask me what it is of, but i like it and currently my desktop!!

Thanks, check back tomorrow as I plan on getting maybe one or two more (if I can be bothered... :p)

Not sure about that one, it looks almost CGI, maybe created in PS? Nice but I can't see how it was done as a photo. Hmmm. :)

Well I didn't get any more B&W images today, tried a few things but didn't get anything I was happy with, however I got a few plants instead...
