Thought this was worth posting as it's most amusing.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambridgeshire/7991465.stm

A swan nesting on a Cambridgeshire river has been attacking boats, causing a single sculler to capsize.

The cob, nesting with its mate at Ditton corner on the River Cam in Cambridge, has also attacked a team of university rowers.

Rower Tom Davies said many people out on the river had changed their route to avoid the angry swan.

I've been attacked by this blighter a few times whilst out in my single, swans are aggressive little buggers at the best of times and this one is spoiling for a fight.

It is actually dangerous, as a swan can break a humans arm, and if a sculler were to get caught by it they could find themselves in real trouble.

Also as an amusing P.S: we think we have it bad in Cambridge?

Not really sure whats funny about that. The swan jumped up on the bow rigger, and pushed it under the water which, as anyone vaguely familiar with boats knows, often results in capsizing.

The rower that went in is pretty lucky the swan moved off afterwards, as he could have been seriously injured had the swan attacked him as well.

I was told by my Grandad that a Swan can break a mans leg with it's wing. He died when I was 7 so that was over 35 years ago (scarey) Anyway this is what he told us whilst we ate one for Sunday dinner, My Sister used to moan that they were cute but she soon shut the **** up when he told her that. :p

Parts of this post may be a Blatant Lie. :D

It's a good enough excuse to eat them that's for sure. Nom nom nom. :D

It's supposed to be an arm, not a leg, IIRC.

There was almost a rumble between my dog and a swan recently. Went for a long walk around a priory and gardens and I had to scare the swan off

I was attacked by a Swan when I was about 5 or 6, and I ended up with a black eye and concussion. I only wanted to stroke it.

On the kayak/canoe marathon waterside series there is a swan either after of before Newbury (cant remember) that attacks boats every year. Its freakishly scary being eye level with a swan slowly heading towards you when your stuck in the middle of a canal. Luckily everytime ive passed its attacked the boat not me.

Surprised it hasnt been removed.

Does anyone know anyone that's actually had their arm broken by a swan? I can just imagine someone walking into A&E covered in feathers! :D

I fought a swan when I was at uni (Heriot Watt in edinburgh, whole place was infested with them, and they're all mental) I claimed the victory on the night but I bet it wasn't half as sore the next morning as I was

Haha, swan fighting should become part of the highland games! ;) At least you didn't get a broken arm tho.
