My dad said that when he worked at the theatre royal he used to go down the pub with bronsan before he was famous in york, apparently brosnan worked at the theatre royal.

I'd always thought it was swearing, it certainly isn't a term you'd use in polite company anyway, not quite as bad as that four letter word starting with "c" meaning the same thing but I know quite a few girls who object to it.
