Dark Souls 3

That's the problem, I get SO frustrated with souls games I just give up, never got to smough and ornstein in one, it was just too much.

I relate to what you're saying. In all of the Souls games there is at least one boss who will test your patience. It's hard, but if you want to get the most out of these games you have to let this go. I just beat one boss on my 15th attempt.

With the Souls games you do just have to accept that you will be stuck for a while on one boss or another. But this makes all the sweeter the final victory that you'll achieve.

Just started playing this as i got in on humble bundle...first dark souls game i've ever played...first boss just made a mockery of me...then i realized i had health potions...still took me a good 15 tries to kill it >_<

I am intrigued...will definitely be a game i want to stick some hours into i think :)

Bloodborne made me want to try DS again. It's in a similar vein but the atmosphere is a lot darker and more oppressive, the game also promotes aggression a bit more. There are also no shields, so you can't block attacks, only parry with a well-timed gunshot.

If I manage to finish it and The Old Hunters, DS3 is next on the list.

Does anyone else think The Ringed City is just ******* tedious? Machine gun angels, the summoned archers, every enemy and boss seems to have boringly high amounts of health, said enemies gank you at every turn, enemies who make you recoil as if you hit a wall so you have to wait for them to stop turtling. I have no real desire to finish it.

both ds3 dlcs were lacking tbh.
for as much hate as ds2 gets the dlc was on point.

Well, I don't think I'll be able to get into the game after the ferocious combat and oppressive atmosphere of Bloodborne... DS just feels sluggish and clunky in comparison.

BB is also properly twisted, the game thrives on its suffocating ambience alone, DS3 doesn't feel as unique. I can feel it's a good game but the transition from BB was somewhat painful and I can't really push myself to play more yet.

I enjoyed DS3/Ringed City but it doesnt hold up to repeat plays like DS1 did, the whole game and bosses just feel like a 'gotcha' moment with ridiculous attack wind ups that last for an eternity.

I'd love to get a crack at Blood Bourne but im not buying a PS4 just to play one game.

Okay I'll kinda forgive the rest of the DLC, Gael is ******* incredible. Up there with Manus, Artorias and Fume for me. 1st and 2nd phase are easy enough but 3rd phase is absolutely hectic and had my heart going.

Finally actually getting somewhere with this game, Picked it up last summer sale, failed for 2 hours trying to kill tutorial boss so refunded then picked it up again last week. I've very much realized I need to be playing either range or very fast melee so dropped my knight and re rolled a sorcerer using mail breaker in my off hand. Its taken me a long time and the amount of deaths has been unreal for me but I've just reached the Grand Archives.

So far the fights have been great, my only real struggle was Deacons as being a sorcerer i really struggled to kill the archdeacon quickly. Only other one that was slightly hard was Aldrich but once i just gave up using sorceries full stop he was easy.

biggest dissapointment so far was Wolnir, first try and he didnt even touch me also just used my mailbreaker.

Its tempting me to go back and pick the others up but will give this one a run through with different classes first I think

If you have a PS4 I feel Bloodborne is a better follow up to DS3 as DS3 is much faster than the first two and transitions better into Bloodborne. You're still in for a treat regardless of path you take though. Dark Souls first half is probably my favourite thing in gaming.

Sadly I don’t have a PS4 but several exclusives keep tempting me to get so may pick one up at some point.

I started playing this game again not long ago after putting it aside over a year ago.

It took a bit of warming up to refresh my muscle memory. so I played through a few areas again to get the feel for it back. Changed my non-boss fighting weapon to the Dragonslayer Greataxe, which makes exploring go more smoothly, and finally felt ready for some boss fights. I remembered I'd not triggered the fight with the Gravetender and his wolf yet, so I took those one first to start with an easier boss.

Tonight it was time for the Nameless King, who I'd been putting off fighting last time due to his infamous difficulty. First phase was horrible. I couldn't see what the hell was going on and died twice to I don't even know what. Next time I pelted the flying horror thing with lightning bolts from my arbalest and keep a bit further away.

It was still janky as anything and I used over half my estus to get through it, so I was not feeling confident for phase two. Somehow still managed a very messy victory against him but I have to say I never had a handle on that fight. Left me with that weird slightly pleased but slightly deflated feeling as I know I just got lucky with some roll spamming and as my estus ran down I desperately pelted him with dark fire orbs from distance to get the last third of his health bar down and prayed he wouldn't catch up to me.

It didn't feel quite right winning when I knew so little about what was going on. I will have to come back to this in NG+ for a more satisfying battle.

This meant there was nothing between me and my previous brick wall, Sister Friede. I had found her impossible last time. I couldn't even beat her first phase, so I was not full of optimism. And, six attempts later, well...

Big thanks to @Grandmaster Fap! for cluing me in to how to read her invisibility jumps! Took me a while to put it into practice, but that helped immensely. First phase was no longer a challenge after that.

Phase two I hated again because of the damn camera. Big daddy is so huge he blocks out the screen, I couldn't see where the Sister was half the time, I got trapped between him and the wall and ugh... deaths ensued.

Got to phase three twice. Once doing not a lick of damage to Blackflame. I thought this was another brick wall.

Then I tried my +9 crow talons as I remembered Friede and the Father could both be bled. Okaaaay - these things utterly trivialised the first two phases. With lightning blade applied they ripped through phase one in two weapon arts with follow-up slashes (no damage taken) and big pops went down in seconds. Even in phase three, it was still tricky, but now I was the one staggering her and melting her health bar. Revenge!

And I'm back in love with Dark Souls again! Only three bosses left but I don't want it to finish now.

My eldest was watching me work through The Ringed City too, and he's asking a lot of questions about Dark Souls lore and world, so I'm hoping there might be some father-son jolly cooperation forthcoming as well! :)

Well done mate, glad you fell back in love with the game. Ive had a similar experience with Sekiro, one boss on there made me want to quit gaming, it sucks to feel like hitting a wall but its just about finding your way :)

Bit of a thread necro....

But finally my kids bought DS III!

Youngest asked me to help guide him through it in coop, which I was delighted to accept! :D

But... almost two years out of the game and I can't remember how to play!! I can't even remember my keybindings, and I keep doing things like changing my estus when I want to strong attack or select a spell.

My character still has the soul farming set up I was using when I put the game down all that time ago and I can't remember which weapons I liked, what the strengths and weaknesses of them were, which combos worked well, what the equip load thresholds are like...

I equipped a greatsword and then was fat-rolling for an hour or two before I figured out something was wrong and I was overloaded.

So I haven't been the super sundad coop partner I was hoping. I did manage to kill Vordt for him by hurling CBV around the room, but otherwise it's been a bit of a dog's dinner.

And then there are invasions!!!

I never liked PvP in DS games, but this is getting embarrassing! Everytime he summons me we are invaded instantly.

Now, my SL250 character should be slapping down SL40ish invaders with ease, even with the lowered stat adjustments I'm getting. But the invaders are, of course, all well-practised at pvp, well-built (usually twinks), and know what they are doing - they can generally rememeber their keybindings at least! :) Me? Well, I even cast rapport at one invader by accident... :o

So... help? I don't care for fair play, I just want dad gaming points and to guide my lad through his first DS game so he actually likes the genre! So, if you were an invader, what would you least like to face from a high-level sunbro phantom? Which weapon and spells would most ruin your day? What tactics would be the most difficult to deal with? Ideally something that will be decent at PVE too. Any tips, since it looks like invasions are going to be something we are going to have to deal with and they are currently blocking our progress a bit?

I replayed this recently and wrecked shop with Yhorm's greatshield and greatsword which staggers enemies so much you can stagger and bully bosses like Friede 1st phase as Yhorm's gives a load of extra poise. There's fire knights in the DLC that are extremely dangerous but with yhorm's and greatsword you can stand and trade and simply outpoise them. Light armour with it to keep mid speed roll.

I mostly avoided PvP by only kindling before bosses but all the invasions I did get still were back stabbers, so maybe the anti backstab ring is good.

Almost got a few invaders with greatsword stun effect but I didn't build for PvP so didn't bother too much if I did get invaded.
