Anyone else waiting for this game eagerly? I normally don't hype myself up over MMO's as i've been disappointed almost everytime in the last 6-7 years or so. But if they pull this game off its going to be amazing. Havn't seen anything posted here about it.

They're aiming for a niche market really, and the majority of WoW/EQ2 etc players will be put off by a lot of the stuff in the game, which imo will benefit the community.

Its aimed at PvPers mainly. And PvE'ers/Crafters who don't want to feel like they're wrapped in bubble wrap and want some risk involved in what they are doing.

Fully lootable corpses (yay!), large scale battles, player housing, player built & run cities, sieging of player cities with siege weapons & armies etc, player controlled economy, sea battles & piracy, skill system (no leveling), highway robbery of player traders/merchants etc.

I can't help but think they've taken on too much, but the game has been in development for 4 years or so now without it folding. The clan beta should be out sometime this year so fingers crossed it'll be out sometime in 2008. Any pre-2000 UO players who havn't heard about this game yet, its built for you!

More information can be found here for anyone intrigued. :p

Its been in development for so long (and I believe been through 3 - 4 different engines?) a lot of people are on the verge of giving up hope.

It sounds like the dream MMORPG - especially for those of us from the old skool of UO.

I really want to play this game but I cant help feeling its never gonna happen :(

Yeah I agree, its been in development for along time now with a some quite major changes. Another thing is its not backed by a huge name in the gaming world, such as EA/SoE/NCSoft, which is a good and bad thing. Good that they arn't being rushed to make another half hearted generic MMO as soon as possible, and bad that they don't have large amounts of funding and resources.

All that being said I don't think the game will be cancelled. I think they realise theres a niche market for this kind of game with money to be made, with people being fed up of item grinds and riskless MMO's. When it will be released and what will be cut out of the game is a different matter.

Anything is better than nothing.

And yeah Ultima Online will always be my favorite game of all time.

What server did you guys play on? Name etc? :p

Europa of course as "Noxis" :p Close friend was "X Shaft X".

Sounds good, Looks quite good, I've never been a fan of medieval fantasy type settings, they've been done to death.

Been looking for a decent MMO to play besides EVE recently, if SWG was still good I would resub, I used to love just sitting in my houses back room crafting items and putting them on my vendor in the front room for people to buy. Took a break for a month and when I came back on SOE had fudged it.

will be keeping an eye on this :) whens it out?

Played on Lake Superior myself, started playing before Europa was up and didn't want to leave my char, friends and my L-Shaped behind. Plus the American teenagers made me laugh! Went on Europa for a year or so before quitting fully, was in CoM for awhile, but the game was at the point where people were leaving due to EA's incompetance. Name on Europa was Lunin, wrestle/mage. Lemme guess, you were a DP Nox mage? :p

"When its finished(TM)" :p

No set date, but the clan beta should start sometime this year. Guess we'll have more of an idea then.

I see some pretty bad flaws in the fully lootable corpse idea.

Guild A raids monster "Demon God Overlord", most of them being wiped out but they suceed.

Guild B sits there waiting and steals the loot from the few remaining Guild A people.

Where's the incentive to raid? You might as well just wait around for someone else to then wipe them out while they're weakened.

MMO's don't revolve around raiding, or at least they didn't. Damn I played UO for 5-6 years and there wasn't a single raid dungeon/mob in the whole game when I played, apart from the rare GM run events. I hate the idea of raiding myself, the rat race to get the "ooo shiney shiney world first sword!".

Darkfall won't be about items. All the equipment people will use will be easily replacable/craftable, and how good a player will be dependant on that persons skill and understanding of the game, not the items they possess. Even if you don't get killed and looted your weapons will wear down with use and eventually be destroyed. So constant guild raiding wont really happen as the loot you'll get will be lost sooner or latre.

And if a guild party gets jumped like that, come back all guns blazing and make the offending guild pay with their blood! :p

PvP based game remember. Ask around and the usual response will be "Dont like it? Go play wow" :P

It will add so much excitment to the game when your risking something you worked for :)

Hehe I would hardly call myself a mmo newb. :)

I used to play Mudz before all these graphic mmorpg's came out and played eq1 since beta. I've even worked as a paid gm for EQ and WoW.

I just don't see why everyone gets so hung up on pvp in mmorpg's. If I want to pvp I'll go play battlefield or cs:s where you're all equal and it's your skill that sets you apart rather than class and equipment.

The pleasure in mmo's for me is grouping with friends to achieve goals that few other people in the game have the teamwork skills to do.

Yes in EQ1 everyone could kill clear PoT but not many guilds could do it with the small number of people my guild could. I had a core group of 5 friends and when we all grouped we could take out stuff that some raid parties used to wipe on.

That's a real achievement in my eyes.

Hope you don't take this as an insult first of all, its just my point of view as a MMO player. I've never felt much of an achievement by beating a scripted, unintelligent and predictable mob, no matter the odds. I find - or at least found - achievement in taking on 5+ unpredictable fair skilled people with just me and a friend, beating the odds, killing them all, and reaping the rewards (namely, all their stuff!). Then trying to make a very quick get away with their loot before they come back with friends. :p

You'd probably understand if you started your MMO "career" with UO instead of EQ.

As I said in the original post, Darkfall is aimed at a niche market, obviously you don't fall into that niche. :p

I would rather NPC with mates as a way to get better at PVP, thats where the excitment is if you ask me, unpredictable fights where the enemy has a brain and can make use of all the abilitys and skills in the game, as opposed to the NPC which usually means highlevel = higher hitpoints but same old behaviour and very predictable/controlable.

I see your point but it was more that I could beat a scripted unintelligent mob that no one else could that was the achievement.

I too enjoy a bit of pvp, I just don't enjoy it when I'm trying to get something else done. Which is why I've always been more in favour of battlegrounds and arenas. Ganking people as they're doing a quest doesn't really require much skill either.

Edit: I know it sounds like I hate pvp but it's just that to date I've never found an mmo that could really balance it properly to make it viable.

I can see this game may be different in that it has no levels. (One of my biggest complaints has always been that higher lvl players always tend to pick on slightly lower lvl players to give themself an advantage.)

I guess time will tell.

Don't get your hopes up too high. Theres been quite a few "false starts" with beta testing in the past. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though! :p

Or we just create a "clan" for Darkfall since it appears only clans can apply? I got a couple of domains I can use.
