Dartford tunnel fine

I got the same thing, all 3 of our cars got the letter when we went over the bridge. First time in a decade we had been that way in a decade so was all a bit new.

Letter came through and after calling them, the helpful chap on the phone just took the £2.50 payment for each vehicle.

Seems a better system like CC but you have to remember I suppose.

RE above I doubt you can appeal now but a phonecall is always worth it I suppose
 
Good news! I just rang Dart Charge again and explained that some people I know (that's you lot) got let off the penalty after they'd received their penalty notice and that I'd paid even before receiving one. She said I wasn't meant to pay and can get a £35 refund by writing to their Leeds PO Box.

Then I rang again to check that they wouldn't later be sending me a PCN and was told no they wouldn't. It's because because of a 14 day grace period they give to pay, but once only. She said now that I know the score, only if I failed to pay it the next time that there would be no more 14 days period to pay the £2.50. In fact she told me I don't even need to write to the PO Box and that she would process the refund now and I'll get it back within a few days.

So the stupid female that took my payment earlier this morning was clearly a clueless ****.

Result though! Thanks guys. I wouldn't have bothered with trying for a refund if you hadn't mentioned you were let off. :D

This is mentioned a lot but nowhere in/on/around Dartford does it tell you the price (unlike say the M6 toll) and it doesn't actually say "toll" anywhere so for those who only use it once in a blue moon might miss it quite easily (even the big blue signs which say Dart Charge) so I'd guess it must be a right little money earner!
 
My wife just received four fines for this. :D

All four had the correct registration, but one listed the vehicle as a van.

All of them were delivered more than 14 days after the offence.

She phoned up to explain she was not local and was not aware of the changes that had been made and they charged her £12 for all of them.
 
My dad just got one of these, along with an NIP for a different part of the same journey - he isn't best pleased :p
 
Got done twice! One in march just after they introduced it. They let me off that time. Then in August got done north to south. I have appealled on the basis of lack of signage north to south, the fact it used to be FOC that way and that im a very infrequent user.

we shall see what happens!

ludicrous system IMHO.
 
One of my friends posted on FB today asking what a dart charge was, they had received a letter in the post, response was loads of people telling them to bin it if not from the council lol.
 
I forgot to pay once as I was in a hire car and I didn't have the dart tag.
I was expecting the fine and was 'happy' to pay it, it came but when I went to pay within the 14 days it was trying to charge me the full amount.

A quick phone call and they just charged me £2.50 and that was the end of that
 
I must thank this thread for appearing and reminding me I forgot to pay for my crossing on Sunday lol. Paid this morning and hopefully that will be the last I hear of it.
