Sorry if there is thread on this already ( I must have missed it), I'm looking into purchasing a small good quality dash cam (due to spending more time on the road and seems to be more and more idiots on there) which is easy to move from one car to another. I know nothing about dash cams.
Thanks for the help

That is a good dash cam, I had one of the 0801 models myself. The only problem is it's not portable between cars, given the adhesive mount. How many cars would you want to use it in, as you can buy additional mounts for about 9 quid.

In which case I'd consider getting one of the mini variants. Good mounts and they are quite concealed once installed, so that you can leave it in if you so wish.

I use my GoPro Hero running in mine at rear view mirror height. It's the basic model and with an 8gb card you get about an hour of coverage.

Although the wide angle is great for getting everything in, it's not great at pulling number plates or seeing drivers faces etc. Plus, this model doesn't have battery packs so once its dead, it's out of action so not great for long drives.

I'm looking at getting something high quality though towards christmas.

I have the 0805 with 32GB SD card. I was initially using the 1296P resolution (21:9) but feel it doesn't make the picture any better compared to 1080P so now run 45fps at 1080P to offset frame speed vs quality. Means fast movements are more likely to be froze in a still framegrab whereas 20fps might end up a tad blurry from motion.

Mine is concealed just above the mirror and is wired into the glovebox so powers up and starts recording by itself on ignition and goes off when the car is off.

They're the best for the price going by my research before I got one. 720P at 60fps, 1080P at 45fps and 1296P at 30fps as well as HDR mode but only at 1080P at 30fps.

The bitrate cannot be changed (VBR only), because it's variable you will get some blocky bits here and there as well as compression pixels. Don't expect anything that rivals the 1080P quality of any modern smartphone video recorder though. Having said that, it's fine for deciphering number plates ahead and seeing what is going on and they have built in mic/GPS/g-sensor and other options.

Hi, I have the 805. Are your recordings split up in 1 / 2 and up to 5 minute intervals ? Also between intervals I lose about 5 - 10 seconds of video, do you get this as well ? Thanks.

In reply to the original post, as above the 805 is a decent camera - also the Transcend Drive Pro (although is a bit intrusive)

I'm using the 5 minute recycle option but each video is split actually at just under 4 minutes each it seems, though I'm not missing any amount of seconds, it's like that dashcam reviewer guy found, only 1 or 2 frames missing on the "split" which is nothing you're going to notice in normal viewing.

Is your unit a genuine one? Loads of clones about I heard!

I've just read on PH about the Mobius Action cams. Cheaper than the latest Mini 0806 yet H264 recording at higher bitrates so much crisper picture. The samples look smart phone HD quality. if I'd know beforehand of those I'd have given one a punt with the dash mount package! Though they don't have as many features such as GPS or built in screen.

Ah well.

I believe it is, brought from amazon (direct) - boxed as an E-Prance 805, white box with a picture of the camera on the front with cardboard sides.

Thanks.

Tried resetting it? Also what SD card are you using? I've seen some recommend Class 6 although mine is a Class 10 Sandisk Ultra.

Yeah tried a reset to factory default, also tried a couple of different memory cards. Ill try a class 6 and see if it improves as I had heard class 10s a little too fast for the device. Thanks.
