Dashboard - What's the point?

I've lost faith in the dashboard weather widget tbh.

It never shows the right weather conditions :o

I use mine for iStat Pro and a few random things like Imageshack. I've been usin Spotlight for most things lately. It's the perfect calculator and dictionary.

iTunes album art fetcher -
train station live board thingy
wireless network finder
and stop dashboard widget which unloads them once i am finished

I still use it especially for countdown calendar and cutting bits of webpages out with Safari, as well as Cantopod for lyrics.

I don't use the weather widget, instead I have 2 webclips - the 5-day and 24-hour forecasts from the BBC website.

Additionally, I use the calculator, have a webclip for my router stats, have the BBC radio widget and iStat.

My dashboard takes a couple of seconds to load the first time I use it after restarting my iMac. Is there anyway to set it so that the widgets etc load in the background, so that when I hit F12 for the first time, they're there, ready to go?

on webclips... if the website requires a login... how do you get that to work with dashboard or is it not possible? for example if i wanted to have part of the 'for sale' forum on here how do i get it to work... it always just show the login screen for me.

I hadn't thought about web-clipping the router stats page

Saying that, I may disable dashboard tonight, see if I can last a week without it.

never use it anymore. Used to have a hot corner, then realised I'd rather have the calculator when I need it and the stickies app because I have a lot of stickies on the go usually.

What does everyone's dashboard look like?

hah 'Monies i owe..' :D

I use it for weather but as has been said it doesn't seem very accurate.. calculator I just press the calc button on my keyboard which brings up the proper one instantly.

I've used iStat Pro but don't have it anymore.. I don't really care how much memory I have free or how fast the fan is spinning. I've used the iTunes album art fetcher but it can be quite unreliable - sometimes it just won't paste the artwork in or it randomly uses something different from what it is actually displaying.

Dictionary app on dock.

See the webclips part, i assume that will refresh the part of the page you clip automatically?
So if i clip around the 2 mac fora on here, it will refresh the latest post whenever i launch the dashboard?

Yes.

So will this work for the members market too? and other sites that require login. If so where does it pick up your username/password from.

Just tried it and it seems to work.

It doesn't need to get a username or password as you have a cookie saved in safari. If you log out from OCUK in safari it probably would stop working..

I made a webclip of my router's stats page. The page included SVG and the widget always ended up hanging and crashing.

Maybe not for us laptop users, but for those with large displays it would be useful to 'drag' widgets from the dashboard to the desktop. Vista can do this iirc.

Ok i am now trying with my xbox Live friends list (from the website) plus the F1 headlines from Autosport.
I also have an MLB widget showing how the cubbies got on :D
