Dashcam causes radio interference

I have a DOD F0900LS dascam - it's connected to an ignition switched source so it comes on and goes off automatically. The cable is not near the radio or the aerial lead and is connected to a supply other than the radio's supply. The power supply is a three way ciggie lighter that's in a cubby hole under the steering wheel.

When the dashcam has power going to it, it causes terrible interference to the radio. Run it on battery power and it's fine. Any ideas as to how to prevent this from happening? It's a bit of a pita. I've also found if I plug a 12v usb adaptor in, this also causes interference.

The car has an amplified aerial base, with a power supply running up to it supplied by the radio wiring loom.

Help!!

Cheers

Do those ferrite ring noise suppressor thingies work?

They can make a big difference.

However you may be better off replacing the adaptor with a higher quality one rather than trying to fix the existing one (from memory ferrite rings only help with certain things, a badly designed/made adaptor might not be helped by one).

alternator whine ? Is the frequency of the noise proportional to the revs ?
DC on my car when running has a ~1V alternating signal over the top of it from the alternator. I used some RF box cleaner and some capacitors to reduce the noise to minimal.

No - it's not alternator whine - the reception literally starts to break up and I get static. Sometimes the radio even loses the RDS data too!

It's a bummer that both the power adaptor for the dashcam and the stand alone usb adaptor both cause problems.

I'll look into trying a more expensive adaptor.

Cheers :)
