Dat 72 drive

Hi

Does any one use a HP Dat 72 drive for backup?

I am using one at the moment in one of our smaller sites along with backup exec 11d.

The issue we are having is that it isn't compressing the data correctly.

Its currently trying to backup 56gb onto a 32 gb tape which should hold 72 gb compressed. Now i understand i will never get 2:1 compression from it, but i would have thought i would be able to get at least 60gb onto the tape before it stopped or even a little more.

Has anyone came across this?

Yep, we have a few 72Gb HP DAT drives, depends what files you're backing up and if they can be compressed or not.

Never got anything like 72GB on a tape.....

Yeah 56Gb is about right. I've seen anywhere between 1.7 and 1.3 compression on various DAT, DLT, AIT, LTO etc.

Sounds about right, I think we used to have issues around the 45-48GB mark, running onto 2 tapes.

Best we got was around 40Gig, although it does depend on what you are backing up!
