Hello all

Not sure if this is the right place but i wnated to know if anyone knows if north wales area had a data centre?

THank you

The data centre scene in Manchester is growing. I have been to 3 or 4 different ones and new ones are being planned and built all the time. I can definatley recommend IFL2.

I've only been to IFL and telecity in manchester, but I'm not a big fan of either. Outside of london it's really pretty poor in the UK datacenter wise.

I don't really have the knowledge to argue with that on you but it makes sense anyhow. I do get the impression that Manchester is picking up/improving quite a lot but yeah...London for the win and all :)

They aren't bad places, not as fancy as the london datacenters but connectivity is the issue. Maybe not so much if you're just buying 2MB 95th percentile access but it's a big issue if you need high bandwidth circuits in.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, there is a data centre being opened about 15 mins from where i live (The old LG Factory in Newport, S.Wales).

I can offer you upto 10GE there:p

For 10x South East prices.

Not at all, but its against forum rules to discuss further. I was merely making the point that you can now get carrier grade services direct in Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh in our case. It's not just about London and the SE anymore. Power costs are astronomical in London now so more customers are moving away and we are following the demand.

We have a 10Gbit core linking 6 london datacenters for less than we've been quoted for 10Gbit to manchester. True our london core is dark fibre which was always going to be good value but still it's a big price difference. Power costs might be high but our customers are still largely london based which decides it for us. We're considering loosing our presence in IFL2, it's not worth the costs right now...
